Hong Kong Domestic Helpers - Enjoying The Convenience at Home

By Alice Sy

A lot of people these days realize the benefits of hiring Hong Kong domestic helpers. For them, the convenience of having a hired help in the home far outweighs the monetary cost of maintaining one.

The services of domestic helpers in Hong Kong are relatively cheaper compared to those in other parts of the world, particularly, the United States. In the Western front, only the wealthiest and the most powerful are able to afford getting the services of a full time, live-in domestic helper, but in Hong Kong, even those belonging to the working class can get themselves a maid.

Generally, the pay rate of domestic helpers in Hong Kong is around HK$ 3,580 or US$ 470, although the rate does vary among employers.

Besides the regular wage, Hong Kong domestic helpers should have one day off in every week, monthly food allowance of HK$ 500 or US $63, access to medical and dental services, and sick leave pay. Hong Kong domestic helpers are also usually entitled to a seven-day paid vacation leave after completing one year of continued service.

If you are considering of employing the services of Hong Kong domestic helpers, one of the best ways to look for someone you can trust is through word of mouth. The best recommendations often come from family members and close friends, so you should consult them first if they know of anybody who can work for you. Others ways by which you can find a domestic helper are through the notices being posted in Supermarkets or Clubs, and certain manpower agencies.

Assuming that you have found the right Hong Kong domestic helper, you will still need to take the necessary precautions. This means that you have to make the certain verifications. For example, find out if she has a valid work visa, and if she is capable of handling children, pets, cooking, and so on. You can conduct an interview to find these out.

If you are hiring a domestic helper in Hong Kong to take care of your kids while you are at work, there are health institutions that offer child care courses intended specifically for domestic helpers. By doing this, you can be confident and at peace, knowing that your kids are in good hands.

With a domestic helper, you can do so much with your time; thus it is safe to say that with Hong Kong domestic helpers, you can live in total convenience.

Holiday Shopping Diva: Have a Plan B for your Holiday Shopping

By Edie Mindell

Holiday Shopping Diva here with another dose of sanity to add to your holiday shopping excursions this year. One of the most difficult things about the whole holiday gift giving process is that even with the best-laid plans there is always a hitch. Sometimes this is a minor set back that can easily be rectified, other times it is not so minor.

What do you do when your toddler happens to set his heart on this season's equivalent of the cabbage patch doll or tickle me Elmo toy? (Bloodshed is not an option.) Let's face it, if your baby or toddler wants the season's 'it' toy, you may need a plan B.

When you think your list might be laden with toys that will be snapped up before the boxes are off the delivery truck having a good offense is the only way to go. The only offense in shopping is to shop longer and harder than the other shoppers. This means you will need to start looking for that red wagon early in the season and with a great degree of frequency until it is secreted away for your child.

If shopping till you drop does not yield the perfect tricycle then a special order might be what you need. You might pay a bit more in shipping, but at least you will get the gift you are after. When implementing the special order plan B do not forget to allow time for shipping and check the internet as well as in-store ordering options.

One of the less popular tactics but one that might need to be used is simply knowing when to say when. Holiday shopping and gift giving should be fun especially when you are shopping for kids. When no other gift will possibly do this can be difficult but you do not need to abandon all hope of ever presenting your child with a beautiful step stool just her size. All that needs to be altered is the timeline. The mad rush to buy a holiday toy passes with the holiday season. To this end buy the gift and present it to your child for Valentine's Day, a birthday or just as an out of the blue I'm thinking of you.

Plan B options also include the second choice gift. Sometimes the perfect gift that you just can't find is also the one you thought of yourself. You know your child will just love a rocking horse, but she didn't ask for it. In this case make a last minute gift substitution. Your child will never even know, and your sanity and stress level will decrease.

Don't forget the power of the internet. Many gifts that are not to be found in a traditional store are available with very little hassle on-line! I have begun doing much of my holiday shopping online. It is great! Stay tuned for more internet shopping tips that will certainly spice up your holiday shopping.

How the Christening Gown came to be

By Sarah McGallan

Until the seventeenth century, young babies were carried to the font in a "bearing cloth"; a large square piece of silk, edged with trimmings of gold lace and braid and wrapped tightly in swaddling clothes.

What we now call the "Christening Robe", evolved in the mid-eighteenth century when babies were freed of swaddling from an earlier age. The earliest surviving samples were made of white silk and had a front opening which was either left open to show a petticoat underneath or fastened with ribbon ties. Similar to the women's gowns of that period, the robe had similar decorative curving lines of braid.

The first Christening robes were made in the style worn every day by eighteenth-century children: both boy and girl babies wore "slip" dresses, with a very long, flowing skirt falling from a short, tucked bodice and a low neck and short sleeves. Other items of clothing such as bonnets and bootees could be made to go with the robe. A number of exquisite Christening sets survived from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, including bibs, head bands, mittens and pincushion covers or handkerchiefs in embroidered linen.

Victoria era babies wore Ayrshire decorated gowns. Ayrshire is a delicate form of white-on-white embroidery that originating in the Scottish Lowlands.

Pinning a piece of shortbread to the Christening robe was an old Scottish custom and was to be worn throughout the ceremony. If an unmarried girl was to eat the shortbread afterwards, she was thought to dream of her future husband that very night. It was also vital that the baby was to sleep in its Christening robe for the night of the baptism; this was to bring luck and good health into the baby's future.

An endless tradition

The same fashion for Christenings has remained popular ever since. This is partly due to the tradition of handing down Christening robes from one generation to the other, thus over many years, dozens of babies may use the same Christening robe.

If there's no antique gown in your family, you can create an heirloom for future generations with a gown from our range which has been made in the traditional method in fine natural pure silk, embellished with delicate embroidery and tucking.

Taking a Cruise With a Baby? You Must Read This

By Brooklyn Sterritt

We just came back from a cruise vacation with our nine month old daughter. We had a great time on the trip. We did a lot of things very well which contributed to the success of the trip, and there a few things that we will do different the next time so that our next trip will be even more spectacular.

I thought it would be beneficial to other travellers planning a cruise with a young baby to read about our typical day on a cruise ship.

First of all it was great that Princess Cruise Line provided us with a very nice playpen for our daughter to sleep in. Our daughter is a good sleeper - so every day she would sleep until about 7 o'clock. We would take her out of her playpen, change her diaper, and bring her into bed with us for some family play and snuggle time.

We changed her into some dry clothes and then my hubby would get out the stroller that we brought with us on the trip and take our daughter to the wrap-around promenade deck of the ship for a half-hour or so stroll. During that time I would clean up the cabin a bit and then get myself ready for the day - have a shower and organize the diaper bag for the day. When they returned my husband would have his shower and get ready for the morning.

Our family would then head off for breakfast. We did not go to the dining room for breakfast - instead we thought it was easier to eat at the buffet area. The Princess ship had high chairs throughout the dining areas - so it was always easy to get one. My husband would get a high chair and get our daughter set up in it while I went to the buffet to get some food for the three of us to start on. The buffet line was never very busy so it just took a minute or so to get the food.

Our daughter loves the water - so most days after breakfast we would head back to our cabin - change into our swim suits and head off for the kiddie swimming pool. On the ship that we were on babies that wear swim diapers are allowed in the kid's pool (so make sure you pack some on your trip).

After swim time back to the cabin for a morning nap for our daughter. One of us would stay in the room while the other took off on their own to explore the ship. We took turns doing this.

When our daughter woke up for her nap we would put her into the stroller and the three of us would walk around the ship together. Back to the buffet for lunch together - more exploring - maybe some more swimming - and eventually it was afternoon nap time.

For dinner we always went to the formal dining room. It was the highlight of the day. We would all get dressed up for dinner, and would head off for a pre-dinner cocktail at about 5:30 and then go for dinner at about 6:00 p.m. Every dinner was spectacular and the service from the dining room staff was excellent. All the staff loved talking to our daughter.

Before going to the dining room we would make a quick trip to the buffet area and pick up a few pieces of fruit to take with us to the dining room for our daughter to eat during dinner.

Once in the dining room my husband and I would order our dinner (the food on Princess is soooo good) and our little girl would eat some of her fruit. We also gave her some small pieces of bread and some other snacks like Yum Yums (that we brought with us).

Our daughter would eventually be ready for her real food. I fed her a jar of baby food and some cereal mixed with water. We pre-ordered the baby food from Princess about a month before the cruise. After dinner the three of us would sit and relax and enjoy being together as our daughter had her bottle.

After dinner we went back to our room. Our room did not have a bathtub it only had a shower. We would plug the drain in the shower and run some water into the shower and it was plenty deep enough for our daughter's bath.

Being out and about during the evening is one of the great fun things to do on a cruise ship - and we didn`t want to miss out. So, every evening after our daughter`s bath time we put her in her sleepers and settled her into her stroller and off we would go to a show, to see a comedian, listen to some music, or just walk the ship. It was fantastic.

Our daughter would laugh and smile at all the people and the excitement that surrounded her - but it wasn`t long - maybe 30 or 40 minutes before she would fall asleep in her stroller. We adjusted the stroller seat so that she was reclining as she slept.

We would continue doing things until my husband and I were ready to call it a day. We would back to our cabin, tuck our daughter into her playpen for the night, and then tuck ourselves into bed as well.

Cruising with a young baby is wonderful (at least in our experience) - it does take some advanced planning. It is a wonderful way to have a stress-free vacation, enjoy our daughter and enjoy being a family.

Unique Wording Ideas For Baby Shower Invitations

By John Smith

Well, I think we all the know the reason why you are here looking for ideas on baby shower invitations. The question at hand now is, where should we begin in creating those invitations? At least with baby shower invitations, you can keep things simple, but just remember to keep things creative too!

The thing we will be covering today will be the wording of the baby shower invitations. The first thing you'll want to think about is the expecting mother. Depending on what the mother to be is like, you'll have a pretty good idea of what type of theme to go with. If she is a more serious person, then you wont want to make too many jokes or references in the baby shower invitations. I think you get the gist of it.

The gender of the baby will also play a big part of how the baby shower invitation turns out. Do they think its gonna be a boy? Boys colors are typically blue, but why not go with a red. Or even make it a really cool invitation and put motorcycles on it. The wording on that type of baby shower invitation should be fairly easy.

Of course, if its a girl, you'll have to tame things down a bit and go with something more girly. I know little girls love my little ponys, and that would be pretty easy to write for. Are there other kids in the family? Kids can act funny when they know another kids is coming. This would be a great opporunity to use the baby shower invitations to make them feel included too.

You could also keep the father to be in mind for the baby shower invitations as well, even though he is likely not to even be there. This idea would definitely be a good one to keep in mind if the baby to be is a boy. Being a father myself, I can remember my own sons baby shower invitation. It was simple, but yet creative and definitely perfect for a little boy. Beleive it or not, dads do remember that kind of stuff.

Hopefully you got a little poet inside of you, as this will make writing for the baby shower invitation a lot easier. I like writing for baby shower invitations because of the simplicity of them, and thats a good thing to keep in mind, dont make it complicated! Like I said before, if you can use your poetry skills to create a neat little poem, that would go a really long way for your unique baby shower invitation.

Dont give up hope yet if you are still lacking those perfect words for your unique baby shower invitation, as help is only another baby shower invitation away! Im not saying to copy another baby shower invitation, as that would take the uniqueness away, but it might help spark an idea of your own! Give it a try and see what happens.

Just remember the whole point of this unique baby shower invitation and you wont give up on the first hurdle. It wont happen overnight! Dont try to rush things and you'll notice how things will just flow to create that unique baby shower invitation that you were going for. This baby shower invitation will definitely be something worth putting time into and you'll be glad you did. What it will a boil down to is time and creativity, and that will produce wonderfully unique baby shower inviations!

How to choose a designer diaper bag

By Ashley Coombe

The first child is always special for the parents, and everyone is excited to welcome him in the family. Purchasing the essentials for the new born is a very fun part of the experience. This is the reason that baby products market is flourishing! Diaper bags are perhaps the most important purchase that a mom will make when preparing for her new baby's arrival. The Diaper Bag should be trendy enough to carry with you and should be functional enough to meet your needs. What are some of the things that you need to look for when purchasing a diaper bag to keep it from becoming overwhelming?

1. The diaper bag is for you, the mom, not the baby. Even if you have four boys, it is completely acceptable to purchase a pink diaper bag, if that's what you want to carry. The bag should be something you not only feel meets your need, but represents your style in a unique way. Designer Diaper Bags are a great way to maintain style while having a bag that functions as a diaper bag.

2. Don't try to buy a diaper bag that your husband will also like to carry. When my first baby was born, I chose a very gender-neutral bag that I could see him carrying. It didn't happen. He would carry it to the car for me occasionally, but always in the manner that said he was carrying his wife's purse for her. Later, as my daughter got older and he spent more time with her, we purchased a smaller bag for him to take when he went out with her. He still regards my Diaper Bag as an extention of my purse, and it is not something he would use on his own.

3. When choosing your Diaper Bag, it's important to know your style of organization. Do you like the idea of lots of pockets and "cubbies"? Do you like a large, open bag that gives you space to throw things? Do pockets and cubbies annoy you? Or do you like to have special places to put bottles, pacifiers, keys, and other belongings? Understand your style and your degree of organization to allow you to choose a corresponding bag. It's even a good idea to talk to a few friends that share your general level of organization to see what they find helpful.

4. Be unique! There are so many options now for not having the same bag as every other mom. One great way is to get a monogrammed diaper bag, or a personalized diaper bag. You can choose to have you or the baby's initials or traditional monogram put on the bag, or the baby's name.

5. Choose a bag that will last years for you. If you purchase one that is quality, you can reuse it long after your child is out of diapers. You can use the bag as an overnight bag, a laptop bag, or gym bag. Make sure it is made well, so you are not having to replace the bag while you are still carrying around diapers!

6. How do you want to carry the bag? Is it important you to have your hands free, so you would prefer a backpack diaper bag, or a stroller diaper bag? Or would you prefer to have a tote diaper bag to wear over your shoulder so you can reach in and quickly grab for whatever you need?

7. It is important to think about the closure that you want. There are many options, such as zippers, ribbon closures, magnetic snaps, or button closures. Think about your style, what you think looks best, and the pros and cons of each. Zippers keep things from spilling, but it often takes away from the amount of room you have in your bag, and they wear out quickly. Which of these things are a priority to you?

8. A custom bag is a fantastic option if you can't make a decision or find the exact ideal bag for you. They are often less expensive than a designer diaper bag, and will reflect your desires and needs exactly. You can combine the fabric that you love with the type of closure and number of pockets you know you would prefer. On our website, you can easily choose to have a custom bag made!

9. Do you typically like larger bags? How long are you typically gone from the house? If you are often gone for the whole day, remember that you will need more supplies once the baby is born. Do you tend to be an overpacker, or just include the essentials? Each of these things are important to consider while shopping for your diaper bag.

10. Most importantly, don't waste your money purchasing a cheaply made bag. Although it is tempting to spend thirty dollars on a diaper bag at Walmart, you will spend more money in the long run replacing something that is poorly constructed, and that you don't use often because it doesn't have the elements you need. Invest up front so you have the perfect bag that will outlast your child's years in diapers!

We hope you enjoy your shopping experience as you search for a designer diaper bag. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have!

3 suggestions for your online baby book

By Pauline Bhuren

Creating your online baby book is a unique and fun task. But as a new parent, everything is new to you. Many parents are confused on what to put in the scrapbook. Only you can determine which memories of your little on should be captured, but I can offer you some advice based on my experience.

First, remember make your baby journal as detailed as possible without making it boring. While you may be awed with everything your baby does now, but years later you will see that you wrote the same thing multiple times. Instead of writing by yourself, consider inviting others to contribute to your baby book. Different writers are sure to make the book more interesting.

My second advice is to start immediately after your baby is born. Try to write small things often to avoid missing anything big. You will soon notice that there will be so many wonderful moments that if you don't write them down immediately, you may easily forget when those happened and how.

Third, include as many photos of your baby as possible. Take a picture with everyone and include in your baby book. This will create nice memories to review later. Many of these people may not be around then. Also remember to snap lots of photos with the two of you and add them in the book as special moments with Mommy and Daddy. You will be surprised to notice how quickly your baby grows during the first year.

Now if you are worried how you can do all these, you should try BabyChapters.com. You can sign up there for free and get a great online baby book for your child. Birth Month Flowers Can Add to the Baby Shower Theme

By Edie Mindell

Flowers add a special touch to any event, especially celebrations like baby showers. While some choose a type of flower to match a color scheme, others like to use the baby's predicted birth month flower, or even the flower of the month in which the baby shower will be held. Whether you decide on flowers according to the baby's birth date, or simply pick the ones that you love the most, this article will break down the significance of each month's flower.

A great idea might be to choose different flowers based on their meaning and make a beautiful flower arrangement pattern for the shower. There are beautiful baby shower centerpieces that are made from baby clothes called baby bouquets that have to be seen to be believed make unique arrangements. These are some of the best baby shower ideas to be invented in the last few years.

January's flower is the sweet and sassy carnation. The carnation exerts beauty, distinction, gratitude, fascination, and admiration; the pink carnation in particular represents "a mother's love." Soft and gentle on the outside but strong and durable on the inside, the carnation is the perfect flower to represent the bittersweet paradox relating to the first month of the year. The carnation's scientific name, Dianthus, directly translates into "flower of love." This flower is one of the oldest cultivated flowers in the world, yet one of the most popular today.

February is the month of love and warmth, and this month's flower, the iris, denotes deep and profound notes. The iris' three upright petals each have a meaning; the first is faith, the second is valor, and the third is wisdom. Gracefulness, majesty, and dignity characterize the iris' presence. Purple, the color of royalty, makes February's birth flower extravagant and majestic; the iris is truly the flower of splendor and grandeur.

In March, spring begins to arise with bright cheers and rays of sunshine. The daffodil is dainty and yellow, and is the flower that follows after and breaks winter's cold atmosphere, bringing warmth and joy to the world. The daffodil is the symbol of rebirth, new beginnings, and a fresh start. Daffodils exert happiness and exhilaration to the world, and fill the earth with light and brightness.

April is a paradoxical month, with both rain showers and sunlight. The daisy's character parallels this paradox, in that it is a feminine yet childlike flower. The legend of the history of daisies is that this precious flower originated from a nymph who transformed herself into a cute-but-not-loud flower, in order to run away from unwanted attention. The daisy is symbolic of eternal youth, playfulness, and a charming child-like character.

The best things about May are the beautiful lilies that decorate beautiful landscapes of the earth. Lilies are sweet and humble; they do not ask for attention but their unconventional beauty inevitably gets compliments and praise. Lilies symbolize virtue, purity and honor.

The middle of the year calls for June's sunshine, warmth, and gorgeous roses. Roses are the universal icon for love and passion throughout the world. Roses depict beauty and perfection, and they reveal a touch of mystery. Each and every petal is as gracious as the next, and the rose surely stands out in a bouquet.

Whichever flower, month, color or any other category you choose for baby shower planning, you are assured to have a colorful, fun event for celebrating the newborn baby's birth!

Babysitting Agencies: How To Choose the Right One

By Rashel Dan

Babysitting agencies can help you a lot. If you're looking for a sitter, then the best place to look for one is in an agency. Getting a sitter from an agency will give you some assurance that procedures have been followed to ensure that you have a qualified sitter. Different agencies however have different methods and procedures. You would want to be with an agency that can source the best sitters. How do you know that you are with a good agency?

Source of Sitters

Agency Background - Finding out about an agency's background is a given. Your next step should be finding our exactly where they get their sitters. It would be good if an agency can get sitters from various sources. After all, this is not a question of discriminating against certain places as sources for sitters. It's about finding out how they screen their applicants.

Look for an agency that conducts preliminary checks, investigation and screening. This includes verifying a sitter's real identity and checking for past records of cases of misdemeanor. Determine how an agency conducts its checks.

Agency Requirements for Sitters

An agency would have specific requirements before they accept sitters. What exactly are these requirements? Are sitters required to have certificates in first aid courses? In some cases, sitter applicants aren't required to have these certificates. This is because not every sitter would have the motivation or resources to take these courses. Some agencies however take it upon themselves to provide learning opportunities. A sitter who is well-versed in emergency response is valuable. You would want a sitter who can respond to emergencies and accidents.

Sitter Matching

Good babysitting agencies shouldn't just offer you any sitter. They should be able to offer you a sitter who can respond specifically to your needs. Your sitter for example should be able to work well with kids who have the same ages as yours. You may also have special requirements such as sitters being able to cook as well. Find out how an agency will help you find the exact sitter that you need. Some agencies will help you interview their sitters so you can find a good match. Others will interview you personally so they can determine your needs and find a sitter who fits.

Agency Guarantees

Ask about some form of guarantee. Products typically have money back guarantees. Agencies on the other hand have guarantees for replacements. This is important because there will be instances when your sitter will be unable to come in. It is also quite possible that you may not be satisfied with your sitter and would like a replacement. Will your agency replace a sitter at no extra cost?

Cost

The price is a crucial factor. How much do you have to pay your agency for a sitter? You may have to pay an initial fee whether or not you finally decide to get a sitter from them. Some agencies have non-refundable initial fees. You then have to pay for a placement fee. This amount covers the costs for agency services include background checks. In some cases you may have to pay extra for transportation costs. Once you have your sitter, you have to pay her an agreed sum every month.

You may have to spend a bit more with an agency than if you try looking for a sitter yourself. If you think about it though, the cost may be worth every penny. Just think about it as paying a large amount for the safety of your kids.

If You Are Breastfeeding Learn More About Unhealthy Snacks

By Michel Swoone

Be cautious about the food that you are eating since it can have an impact on the health of your baby and you. When making decisions about the food that you eat try to minimize the amount of artificial trans-fats that you eat.

There are two kinds of trans fats - the natural trans fats and the artificial trans fats. You will find the natural fats in some milk and some meats. These do not cause a health concern.

Artificial transfats are in processed foods - such as cookies, french fried potatoes, margarines and other foods. Try to avoid these food choices as much as possible.

Having too much artifical trans-fats in your diet could result in an increased risk of heart disease. This is because artificial trans-fats can cause an increase in the "negative-type" of cholesterol (LDL) and at the same time cause a drop in the level of the "positive-type" cholesterol (HDL) in your body. All of this may cause a increase in the risk of heart disease.

Even before giving birth - too much "artificial" transfats in your diet may elevate the risk of infertility - it may also lead to lower birth weight for a baby. During pregnancy it can cause higher blood pressure for the mom, and may also result in an earlier birth.

If a mom is breastfeeding the trans fats (both good and bad) can be transferred to the baby.

So what can you do to reduce the amount of bad trans fats that you eat? Here are some strategies that can help

* be conscious of the impact of the "bad" trans fats for you and your baby.

* before buying a product take a look at the packaging label. Try to purchase items that are free of transfats have 0 grams of fat in them.

* if you see on the product label that the product contains partially hydrogenated oil - begin to realize that this means that there are trans fats in the product. Look for an alternative product.

* reduce the amount of fat in the products that you purchase. Choose low fat dairy products (like low fat milk), and opt for leaner cuts of meat. Also, look for products that are made with no fat or low levels of fat.

* if you use margarine in your home compare products. Look for margarines that are free of trans-fat and are made with non-hydrogenated fat.

* when possible don't fry your food, or fry your food less often. Use healthier oils like canola oil (low in saturated fats and rich in monounsaturated fats), extra virgin olive oil (Rich in monounsaturated fat, olive oil also contains phytochemicals that may help lower blood cholesterol levels and protect against cancer) when you do fry foods.

* use non-stick vegetable oil cooking spray when frying foods. These products are pure fat, but the small amount in a one-second spray only adds an insignificant amount of fat to a recipe.

* when you are enjoying a meal at a restaurant choose healthier choices - order foods that are low in fat or are free of trans fats.

* when you choose to eat more seafood, fish, cereals, vegetables, nuts, fruit, whole grain products (ex. bread) you will lower the amount of "artificial" trans fats in your diet.

Things To Know About Kids Tricycles and Toddler Christmas Gifts

By Edie Mindell

You have selected your toddler's first bike. It is a sweet sassy little number complete with racing stripes and a bell. It is only 18 inches off of the ground. After the frenzied research and purchase is complete don't be tempted to think your job is done. Dreams of Christmas morning watching your child run to the toddler bike are incomplete unless your toddler is properly equipped with a helmet and other safety gear.

Why does a toddler need a helmet?

Many parents when shopping for a toddler bike forget about the helmet. The bike is only knee-high and the likelihood of serious injury may seem quite remote. Don't be one of the parents whose Christmas efforts and dreams are rewarded by a broken baby. It is very easy to see the reasoning that a tiny bike might only cause a small bump or bruise, and let's be honest, for many this is the case. The news headlines on Boxing Day are not topped with mangled and helmetless riders of toddler bikes. Yet there is an element of protection a helmet provides that will insure your child's safety.

Does a Toddler need the padding?

Toddlers have plenty of natural padding in the form of chub, but they may need a few extra layers to prevent bumps and bruises as they hit the road on their new tricycle. It seems kids these days are buckled, padded and helmeted until they can hardly see or breathe. These safety items really make a difference.

Even the most vigilant parent cannot prevent every fall, nor do they want to. It is necessary to risk a good tumble to learn how to ride a bike, even if it is a tricycle. Toddlers want to learn how to do everything by themselves. Why not give them the padding to make any falls less scary for both parent and child.

Think of it this way: your timid, yet eager child perches atop his bike ready to ride when splat! He falls off skinning his elbows or scraping his knee. This is not a serious life threatening injury, but how long and how much talking will it take to convince your child that this fancy tricycle is fun and not a toddler torture device?

Teach them young

Perhaps the more compelling reason is that of precedent. This is a toddler bike, but it is your baby's first bike. Setting the expectation of wearing a helmet and other padding protection for knees and elbows now will establish good habits. Then when your toddler somehow becomes a daredevil 8-year old rocketing up and down the street he is doing so while happily wearing the appropriate safety gear.

The first toddler bike is a big deal. Enjoy your child's Christmas present along with them and have the shiny new helmet and elbow pads with red racing stripes to complete the holiday Kodak moment. Have a safe and merry Christmas!

Why Use A Baby Front Carrier Or Sling?

By Carol J Pearson

As a mother I have owned a lot of baby equipment designed to make my life easier. If I had my time again and I could choose only one piece of equipment I would choose a baby sling in one form or another (after the disposable diaper of course).

Today there are many different types of baby carrier available all with slightly different features. Graco and Baby Bjorn are two of the more fashionable brands. With this type of front baby carrier, two well padded straps go over your shoulders and cross over behind your back. These straps will adapt to allow many different sizes and shapes of wearer. The baby is then slid inside a supportive pocket with leg holes. The baby's final position is against the chest with the feet dangling.

As the baby grows and gets stronger, many carriers allow the baby to face outward. The things I did not like about the front carrier is that it seemed awkward to me. If the baby fell asleep while in the carrier, it was difficult to gently remove her to lay her down in the crib.

Also, having your baby strapped to your front means it can be difficult to perform some tasks such as cleaning, cooking and caring for your other children. The front carrier can also encourage you to lean forward due to the weight of the child in front of you which is bad for your posture.

After struggling with with my first child I was finally introduced to ... cue up the Halleluah chorus ... A BABY SLING!!! There are several kinds; my preferred sling style was a long piece of fabric that fed through two metal fastening rings, leaving a "tail" of fabric.

My absolute favorite was the Maya Wrap with a pocket sewn into the tail, which I used to carry a couple extra diapers and wipes, and often my car keys and wallet! With this style baby sling, I could carry the baby high or low, on the front, side, or back, facing forward or facing me, and lying down or sitting up. I was also able to breast feed in a discreet, usually hands free manner, covering any accidental exposure with the tailpiece of the sling, which easily went over my shoulder.

As you can see, I am a bit biased toward slings, but the other hands free baby carriers might be absolutely perfect for your needs. Look at all options and try a few out. Whichever you choose, you will be a happier, more productive new parent as you learn to incorporate the joy of nurturing your newborn with the other long list of tasks that you have.

Baby Carrier Backpacks

By Carol J Pearson

If you have been curious about baby carriers and if they can help you, then let me tell you they absolutely can! The alternatives are seemingly endless as you start your search, from the traditional front carriers readily available to the fashion slings being made vogue by actresses. By doing a little research, you can find the ideal carrier for your life-style.

If you intend to buy a baby carrier make sure you try it on before you buy, that way you can get a feel for what is going to work best for you. Also, ask other mothers what has worked for them. When you get a great review try it with your baby.

The front and back carriers put babies in an vertical position, so may not be appropriate for newborns, but they are great when you are going through the grocery store and your toddler gets the grab-its. It keeps your baby safe and happy since they can't run off because you are carrying them, and your hands are free. If you go with a front carrier, look for one that you can convert to a backpack when your child gets older, as most youngsters love the backpack until the age 4 or 5. It also makes it fun and safe for acquainting your child to hiking, or any other activity where a pushchair may not endure the terrain.

Baby slings are adept, and can be used for any age child. Some convert for a sitting position to help you have your arms free if that is your child's favourite method of being carried. Slings are my personal favourite, but you do have to tweak them a little to get them adjusted and to be comfortable. The only downside I can think of with a sling is that one hand needs to be available if an active baby tries to make an escape.

Why are slings and carriers so popular? As well as the practical reasons of having your hands free, being next to your baby increases bonding. It also comforts baby, and the rhythm of moving with you is comforting to your child. Being at eye level with you (such as when they are in a backpack) gives the baby or tot an opportunity to see things from a different perspective. This is good stimulation and can help with brain development.

After you have bought a Baby Carrier you will want to get used to it. Remember if you are unused to carrying your baby for long periods it can be hard work! They are heavier than you think. Be careful with your posture as many front carriers will tend to pull your head forward. I believe a great Baby Carrier will make your life so much better that it will become an indispensable piece of your baby equipment.

Birth Month Flowers - Consider Them in Your Baby Shower Theme

By Edie Mindell

While the first six months of the year carry many pastel-colored flowers, beginning July, bright colors become the most common. Summer brings more joy and color into the picture and fall follows summer with intensity and power.

Consider beautiful baby shower centerpieces that are made from baby clothes called baby bouquets that have to be seen to be believed make unique arrangements. These are some of the best baby shower ideas to be created in recent years.

July's birthday flower, the larkspur-or sometimes called the delphinium-denotes the sensitivity of an open heart and portrays strong bonds and attachments of the soul. The name delphinium coincides with its many dolphin-shaped flowers that are attached to the long, upright stem. The color of the flower can vary between red, yellow, purple, blue, or white, and each flower has five petals. The five petals meet and join together to form a concave flower with a spur at the end, hence the name "larkspur." Larkspurs convey a lighthearted emotion and a feeling of levity.

The gladiola gives those born in the month of August a title of courageous and brave. The Latin word gladius is the direct translation for the word sword, and the gladiola's sword-shaped stems are a visual representation for that. Symbolically, the gladiola represents moral integrity and strength. An extended meaning for the gladiola makes reference to its sword-shaped stems and its ability to emotionally pierce the heart with its stunning beauty and grace; infatuation is one of the feelings that this unique flower depicts.

September's aster is lush, rich, and exerts wild and unconventional beauty. Asters have strong association in the mythical world with magical powers and supernatural abilities. A long, long time ago it was believed that when aster leaves were burned, their fragrance would drive away any sort of evil. Now, this flourishing flower signifies abundant love and profuse elegance.

The essence of autumn is captured in October's birthday flower, the marigold, which was once called "Mary's Gold" by Christians. The marigold contains rich and intense colors that are bold and daring; brilliance and luminosity are characteristic of its breathtaking blossom. Marigolds are symbolic of affection, fondness, refinement, and grace.

November brings quite an interesting and unusual flower like the chrysanthemum, which is a symbol for the sun. Long ago, chrysanthemums are said to have held high positions in ancient cultures. The Japanese culture associates chrysanthemums with utmost perfection, and today, these flowers are linked to a long and healthy life. Chrysanthemums literally stand for optimism, hopefulness, and cheerfulness.

December is filled with good tidings and joy; the poinsettia is the perfect flower to portray the season's greetings and good cheer. Known as the "Christmas flower," the poinsettia is deep but bright red, and its petals are long and beautiful. Legend has it that poinsettias began as little weeds, but, when a humble, little girl placed these weeds on the church alter, they transformed into beautiful poinsettias! They began to bloom and exert a brilliant shade of red and carried charm and grace. This "Christmas flower" is the perfect symbol for merriment and joy during the holidays.

From January to December, flowers are great representations of feelings, emotions, and characteristics that can bring a special touch to your special baby shower!

Whichever flower, month, color or any other category you choose for baby shower planning, you are assured to have a colorful, fun event for celebrating the newborn baby's birth!

Portable Crib Tips: Finding One For Baby's Safety

By JB Anthony

There are several type of cribs for babies. One type that is gaining more popularity in the market is the portable crib. What benefits are there in getting a portable crib and what are the things to watch out for in picking one?

Portable vs. Non Portable

The main advantage is that it can be folded and handily brought around during trips. These cribs usually come in different shapes and sizes and can be made of metal, wood or plastic. Most popular plastic models have fine meshes instead of rails on the sides. Portable cribs are usually smaller in size than typical cribs which is why they are handier. The size and features however of a portable crib are still subject to government safety standards.

Benefits of a Portable Crib

If you are a traveler or if your family likes to take trips, then this type of crib is ideal for you. This type of crib can be carried around easily and can provide the kind of comfort and security that your baby has been used to in his home crib. Portable cribs also double as play spaces. This makes it perfect for families who would like some freedom to enjoy a picnic with the baby around.

Feature and Safety Tips

Models can vary and differ. Before you pick just any model or before you decide on how to use it, you should remember a couple of good tips.

- Constantly get the latest on crib recalls. Although most cribs have been designed with safety in mind, some models may sport features that may not immediately seem dangerous. After some time though, these products may be recalled because manufacturers and users have noticed a design flaw that may make it dangerous. Recall information is always available online. Even if your model is brand new, make sure to check regularly if there is a recall order for it.

- Always check the different parts of a portable crib before you buy it and occasionally as you use it. This will help ensure that your crib has no chipped parts that could injure your baby. Pay special attention to the locks of the crib. Broken locks could cause a crib to collapse on your baby.

- Make sure that the mesh is made of a tight material and does not have overly large holes. A mesh that does not meet current safety standards could rip and injure your baby. He could also get his fingers caught in large holes. There are suggestions that the wire mesh should be on all sides and not just on two sides. Such a design can provide proper air flow.

- Test and check the rail. Make sure that the collapsing mechanism does not immediately collapse on a downward V. The safe kind of portable crib model is the one that has rails that move up in a V before collapsing down. This is a safety feature that can protect your baby from an accidental collapse.

- Your crib shouldn't have controls that are accessible to your baby. Your baby could tamper with controls on the side and cause a crib to collapse.

Baby Shower ABCs: Planning

By Charmaine L. Smoot

Baby showers began hundreds of years ago (yes! hundreds!) as small gatherings of close friends of the new parents to welcome the arrival of the newborn. Back then, it was customary for guests to visit only after the baby was about a month old because of fear of diseases. The gifts brought were all homemade except for silver spoons from the baby's grandmothers.

Today, although they can still be held after the baby's birth, baby showers are usually planned prior to the baby's arrival. Traditionally, showers were only given after the first baby, but today, the rules have changed. A baby shower can be planned for any child, regardless of their birth order, by a friend or relative of the baby's mother. Every baby is a chance to celebrate!

Like other celebrations, the privilege and responsibility of coordinating the event lies with the host. When necessary, the mother-to-be is consulted, but the bulk of the work is performed by the gracious host. The important decisions about things such as location, date, time, guest list and invitations, decorations, and, most important, food(!) are all left in the capable hands of the host.

The baby shower invitation can be as simple as a telephone call or as elaborate as customized invites purchased and mailed from an online source. It all depends on your guest list, their preferred methods of contact, and their proximity to each other. In any case, have the invitations delivered at least 4 weeks in advance to make sure everyone has plenty of time to arrange their schedules.

Baby shower games can follow the theme for the shower. The internet is a great source of fun and entertaining baby shower activities, some for free, others for sale.

Baby shower favors can be home-made or also purchased online. Party supply stores offer plenty of items like tiny tin cans, party favor bags, take-out boxes, and other fun items that can be used to make custom favors. Let your imagination run wild!

For refreshments, cookies and pastries shaped like babies, pacifiers, ducks, and baby blocks will go well with fruit slush placed in baby bottles as drinking glasses.

A well-executed baby shower tells everyone how much you care, especially mom and baby. With just a little time spent on planning, you can make sure that your special event goes off splendidly!

Baby Sitting Services: Choosing the Best One

By Rashel Dan

Baby sitting services are getting popular these days. It's even made more accessible to parents through the internet. They aren't exactly like traditional agencies. They also aren't mere listing sites. Online sitter services are actually the best of both worlds. With a good sitter service, you get an ideal baby sitter at an affordable cost. There are a lot of online sites to choose from though. If you want to find the best, here are some considerations to take note of.

Reputation and Length of Operation

Knowledge on Babies - A sitter service should specialize in the field of baby sitting. Most online services however, would naturally claim to be real experts. The best way therefore to find the really good ones would be to take a look at their track record. How long has the sitter service been in business? Although new businesses may be just as good as old ones, it would be a good idea to stick with a company that has had a lot of experience. It shouldn't just be any kind of experience though. A sitter service should have a long, extensive and expert experience in the field of baby sitting.

See what others have to say. You might get a clue about company experience by reading what clients think. You can get a load of these by visiting independent parenting and sitting forums. Parents who are happy with a particular baby sitting company would be willing to say so online. The same can be said for parents who aren't happy about a particular service. You would at least know which sitting service has the best reputation.

Services Offered

It's not just about one service. Baby sitting services should have a variety of services. This is because not every parent would have the same needs. In your case, you may also have varying needs at any given point in your family life. There may be times when you would need stay in sitters. At other times you may just prefer temporary sitter assistance. A good online service should be able to anticipate every client's needs. There should be a variety of sitters who can stay in, stay out or provide short term service.

Extra Services - Aside from the kind of sitters offered, you should also look for other services. The most important of these is the character investigation. Online sitting services should be able to provide you with baby sitter character files with complete clearances. You probably do not want to end up with a sitter who has a criminal history or a drunk driving case.

Screening Procedure

Know more about their screening process. A site's screening procedure is also important. Will a site perform screening for you or will you be allowed to be the one to screen? If you are an involved parent, you are likely still interested in having a hand at the screening process. Find out how a site will help you do that. How can you schedule interviews with sitters? What kinds of questions can you ask them?

Guarantees

Choose an online service with some form of guarantee. Find out what a sitter site will be willing to do for you if you end up not liking your sitter. You may also need to replace a sitter if she has to go for personal reasons. Will a site replace a sitter without extra charge?

Availing of baby sitting services can truly be a great idea. It is crucial though that you pick the right service if you want a good experience with your sitter.

Baby Shower Invitations

By Gary Pearson

Are you planning a baby shower? Perhaps you are in need of a theme. That's right, these days you don't just throw a baby shower, it has to have a theme too. There are many decisions to be made but the theme should get first consideration. Many baby showers these days have cartoon-inspired themes, and one of the most popular is the Winnie the Pooh baby shower.

The Pooh Bear theme was one that didn't come easy in the first place but after some consideration I really felt that it was a good choice. Once I chose the theme I started shopping for Winnie the Pooh baby shower invitations as soon as possible. It was during my time looking at the many options that I became a little confused.

I decided to start with the invitations, since they are the first thing one needs when planning a party. When confronted with the hundreds of invitation styles available, I almost had a panic attack. How do you narrow down such a large selection to just one itty bitty card? I decided the easiest thing to do would be to narrow it down to things I was familiar with. When I spotted some Winnie the Pooh baby shower invitations I knew I was on the right track.

I was pretty sure that I wouldn't use the baby Pooh designs. These characters are really cute and they do fit the overall event but these Winnie the Pooh baby shower invitation weren't my style. They are adorable but I really wanted something that was a little more personal. This left me with two other options to consider.

The classic Pooh designs are really attractive. This design offers muted colors and a softer feel. I really loved this look and these Winnie the Pooh baby shower invitations were very appealing to me. I could imagine the entire party decorated around this theme and that made the decision very tough.

The colors in the classic Pooh line are just so nice and soft, whereas the newer Pooh merchandise is so bright it becomes obnoxious. I wanted my friend's baby to have a calm beginning, to not be overwhelmed by all the colors.

Anyways, the choice was made so I grabbed by Winnie the Pooh baby shower invitations and then headed down the aisle to find more Pooh themed merchandise to help me throw the perfect shower. Regardless of what type of baby shower you are planning to hold, take a look at invitations first as they will help inspire you to find the perfect theme.

Creative Potty Training Ideas

By Paul Jason James

Many parents approach potty training with the same enthusiasm they would have for gum surgery; it's a necessary evil to be tolerated. It doesn't have to be all drudgery though if you use a little creativity to make it interesting for everyone.

When To Get Creative

Certainly, if you are already in the potty training process and things aren't going especially well, getting creative is better than getting frustrated. You don't have to wait until you're at that point though. Using some creative ideas to introduce the potty training concept to your child can prevent resistance.

Introducing the Idea

If potty training is your child's idea (or he thinks it is) the entire process becomes easier. A few thoughtfully planted comments about big kids using the potty and little kids wearing diapers can spark your child's desire to be one of the big kids and have him asking you to help him learn to use the potty.

Creating Ownership

Let your child be part of the potty training advice planning process. Take him shopping with you and let him choose his own big boy underwear and stickers to use on his potty training success chart if you use one.

Rewarding Success

Some parents are reluctant to give rewards for potty training success because they feel the child is only doing what he's supposed to do anyway. Others have great success with potty training charts where a child places a sticker each time he uses the potty with a small reward being earned for every few stickers.

Rewarding children for good behavior reinforces the behavior. Rewards don't have to be candy or snacks and are better if they aren't.

A trip to the park, an extra story at bedtime, special recognition for an accident-free day all work to motivate the child to do well again.

By spending a little time thinking of creative ways to potty train your child, you make the process more interesting and less of a chore for everyone.

Peg Perego Pliko P3 Classico Stroller - Buying Baby Strollers

By Harley Hamilton

You must have done some research before reading this article. You may have compared features and prices of different strollers. You may also have looked at different accessories like toys and even more and more. I am going to tell you some more tips that you may overlook, hoping that you will find the most comfortable stroller, like Peg Perego Pliko P3 Classico Stroller, for your lovely babies.

The first thing I want you to remember is safety is the most important thing for the user of the stroller, your baby. Babies usually want to get out of the stroller. When they move their body and even lean outside the stroller, the stroller may easily tip over, hurting your baby. A stroller which has a wide base can prevent that from happening. No matter how vigorous your baby is, the stroller should stay firmly. Also try to softly press downward the stroller to check if it will easily tip backwards.

The next thing you have to check is the frame of the stroller. Make sure that there are no pointy edges and gaps which may harm your baby. Their small fingers and toes are easier to be hurt by the strollers than you think.

You may also want to buy a stroller that enables you to look at your baby when using it. It provides some comfort for you as well. You should compare the portability and weight of different strollers if you are looking for a double or triple stroller. I strongly recommend you have a try in advanced. Some strollers have a commodious under-seat storage basket, which provides you the utmost convenience. Without the basket, you may have to hook your bag on the wheel. It means that your stroller will become unstable. It may, again, easily tip over.

Straps are another thing you have to consider carefully. They should be enduring with buckles and strong enough to protect your baby. It should be easy for you to fasten the straps but difficult for your baby to do so. Your baby and you will enjoy a higher level of security if the stroller contains two wheels or brakes. You should check the braking system at least twice before you pay the money.

If you always need to take care of your baby on your own, folding strollers must be your first choice. Take Peg Perego Pliko P3 Classico Stroller as an example. It is large but you can easily fold it up like an umbrella stroller with only one hand. You can even use one hand to carry the stroller because there is a handle on the side provided. It also saves your space to store the stroller.

I hope you will my tips useful. Before you really pay money for a stroller, do spend some time on researching and testing it. The little extra time you spend will bring a more comfortable and safer childhood to your baby.

Buying Toddler Shoes

By Terry Stanfield

If you are looking for a toddler boy gift then you might want to consider a new pair of shoes. Shoes are a lot of fun and you can find many different styles. If you do buy toddler shoes you should consider a few things.

Baby clothes for boys can be the best to buy gifts for. However, a good pair of shoes is the most important. You can find many different types of shoes. It is fun to buy toddler shoes as gifts for boys because most people don't receive shoes. Shoes can be expensive and they are always appreciated.

No matter how cool the shoes are they won't be a great toddler boy gift if you don't take into consideration how comfortable they are. Toddlers are learning to walk. The shoes need to be solid and sturdy. They need to have a good platform to take the right steps and not fall down. When you look at baby clothes for boys and consider a pair of shoes to match you must buy a lightweight pair.

It can really hurt a toddlers feet and legs if the shoes you buy are too heavy. The weight is really important or the baby won't want to walk. Some people can't figure out why their baby is crying and all they need to do is take off the shoes. Be sure the shoes are lightweight and practical for walking.

Another reason shoes are excellent gifts for boys are because they are usually needed. Little feet grow quickly and it can be hard to keep up. Most gifts received are usually baby clothes for boys and not shoes. Babysitter Agency Tips

By Rashel Dan

It may take time and effort to find a good babysitter agency. Chances are, if you aren't careful, an agency can also be the cause of terrible headaches for you. Finding a good agency is as important as finding the right nanny or sitter. Here are some important tips to consider when looking for an agency.

See References - Always check the references of the agency itself. Find out through online message boards if it is a company that many people would recommend. Check too the track record of the company. Find out if it has been in the business of providing sitters to families for a long time and if there are instance of major client complaints.

Make Comparisons - Compare as many agencies as you can. You can easily do this through the internet. Many agencies have online sites that you can access. This will give you an idea which agency has the most convenient system and the most complete service.

List of Services - Go through an agency's list of services one by one. Find out if they have everything you need or if they are missing some crucial service. Important services to consider are thorough background investigation and reference checks.

The Cost - Never fail to ask a babysitter agency about the total cost. Be careful. Some agencies have lists of fees that do not include other possible costs. There may be some hidden fees that you may not know about. Always ask an agency for the complete breakdown and total of costs, including possible sitter replacement fees.

Sitter Arrangements - Ask too about arrangements for the sitter. Once you pick a sitter, find out if you would have to spend on transportation fees. Consider in advance if you would want a stay in sitter or one that would stay out. Not every agency provides both types of sitters.

Your Participation - Find out how much you will be involved. Some agencies will let you participate actively in the screening process. They could provide you with an opportunity to interview possible sitters. There are also some agencies that can do the screening for you so all you have to do is to wait for the sitter chosen by the agency. The agency type that you choose will depend on your own personal preferences.

The Guarantees - Ask about guarantees. How far will an agency be willing to accommodate your preferences with the least degree of inconvenience on your part? Will they replace sitters you are not happy with at no extra charge? What will happen if a sitter has to go home for personal reasons?

The Disadvantages - One disadvantage of a lot of agencies is the steep cost. Always be prepared to spend a lot on an agency is you want good service and a good sitter.

There are several trustworthy agencies out there. However, you have to be careful. You don't want to end up with the wrong babysitter agency. The wrong agency will not just be a waste of your money. It can also endanger your kids and your home by giving you a sitter who is either incapable or dangerous.

Your babies will not tell you they are not comfortable even though the strollers you give them are bad. They will just accept everything, including the bad thing. So when you have to be careful when buying and using the strollers and I am going to tell you how to be careful.

Choosing a nice stroller can be easy as long as you are attentive to the following aspects. People nowadays like to buy a stroller with a back which can recline. Another thing you have to consider is the safety straps. Your babies may feel uncomfortable when being strapped but they are very important to prevent your babies from slipping down. You may want to find a stroller that has straps fastening your babies' waist and legs.

If you have got an impatient baby, it will be safer if the stroller that you are going to buy has a wide base. Even though your baby is strapped, their movement may tip the stroller over. A stroller with wide base will help to prevent that because of greater support.

Last thing to check is how well the stroller is padded. It should not be too much because the movement of your babies will be limited. You have to guess which will give your babies the greatest comfort.

You may feel worried now because there are many things you have to consider when choosing the stroller for your baby. You may wonder if you can handle them. But you have to overcome all of them. I am not going to make you nervous but you have to consider little things before you put your baby into the stroller. Always remember to open the stroller when your baby is away from the stroller. There are many cases that babies get hurt during that process because of the carelessness of the parents. You cannot imagine how easy and common it is.

When you are sure that your baby is not close to the stroller, you then lock all of the brakes and open the strollers completely. To make sure that the stroller is entirely opened, you can use your hand to push down into the back and seat of the stroller.

After placing your baby in the stroller, the first thing to do is to strap them. It is another common oversight that most parents make. As mentioned above, your baby or the stroller will easily fall over if you make this mistake.
