Checklist To Help You Find A Babysitter That Is Best For Your Kid

By Rashel Dan

When looking for a babysitter, it is helpful to have a babysitter checklist. It can be very handy in identifying the qualifications and qualities you want to find in a babysitter, thus cutting your time and effort in evaluating applicants. Furthermore, with a checklist, the babysitter will also have a clear guide of what is expected of her as a babysitter.

Your Checklist

Where do you begin in your search for the right babysitter for your kids? First, you need to be sure whether you want a teen or adult babysitter. Several parents will not hire anyone below the age of 16, but that is particularly essential if an infant is one of the children the sitter will be caring for. Note that some states have laws pertaining to the minimum age for babysitters to be left alone with kids.

Next, consider your arrangement. Will you be taking your kids to the babysitters home or if you want a sitter to stay at your home to watch over them? Kids usually prefer an environment in which they are used to, so if plausible, find a sitter who has ample time and comfortable with watching over your kids in your own household.

Conduct interviews. While searching for a babysitter online is one of the best ways to find good candidates, do not skip the basics. Its your children that are involved, so make it a point to interview your top potential candidates in person. Ask questions like, what would you do if an emergency comes up? and how long have you been babysitting?

Ask for referrals and follow up on them. Inquire reputable organizations and other referrals for individuals who have completed their babysitting course in your area. It is important that a babysitter at least has had some experience and/or proper training on their field.

Checklist For Your Babysitter

A babysitter checklist should not just be for the parent. Once you have chosen a person for your childcare requirements, it is essential to assure that you offer a comprehensive checklist for your babysitter. First, make sure you provide your full name, contact number/s and address as well as the full name and birth date of your child. Make sure you include all emergency contact numbers that the babysitter can easily reach if ever anything happens.

If your child is following a specific routine or a special requirement, it is important to include this in the checklist and brief the babysitter about it. For instance, let him or her know about the time your child should go to bed, allowed foods and beverages, medication, allergies and other pertinent information. Similarly, you should let the babysitter know where the first aid kit is located in your home. Its also better to write down 911 on a note near the telephone or on the checklist you are going to give to your babysitter, as it could be difficult to remember even this number when an emergency arises.

Finally, offer a comprehensive list of any rules you may have for the babysitter and/or your child. Make sure the babysitter is comfortable with these rules, ask as many questions as you can and allow him or her to ask you questions if anything needs to be clarified.

Soft-touch high quality materials made baby blankets should be selected, since they will be always contacting with the girl baby's skin. You should choose blankets that are soft, simple, and free of ruffles, lace, and frills that may cause irritation to your baby's facial skin. Before buying crib sheets check the label to ensure that good quality fabric and materials were used to create them. Purchasing hypoallergenic sheets and blankets will help your baby avoid rashes and skin irritations. Newborns can be allergic, even temporarily, to some materials.

Hand-painted wall letters hung with matching ribbons that spell out your new angel's name can be an adorable finishing touch on your little girl's nursery. BabyBeddingZone.com and other child boutiques stock these in any styles and colors.

Baby Bedding Sets - A Suffocation Hazard For Your Child?

By Bee Fraley

When you first bring home your baby, items like comforters, quilts and pillows aren't necessary.

These sets often come with a bumper too and you might have heard or read conflicting information on them. In the end it comes down to the choice that you make.

If you do decide that a bumper will protect your child, go with a thinner design. Thick, fluffy bumpers are much more of a suffocation hazard than these thinner ones.

The essential items for the first year of your baby's life are sheets, a mattress, and maybe a crib skirt for a better look. You want to avoid fluffy or heavy items in the crib that could suffocate your baby.

However, you might be concerned about your baby staying warm at night. For that purpose consider using an organic blanket or sleep sac to swaddle your baby in. If you wrap your baby snugly you will avoid the risk of suffocation.

What will you do with that comforter or quilt that came with the bedding set? As many parents have found, they make a wonderful decorative piece in your nursery.

They can complement your nursery's theme and can be hung on the wall or a quilt rack. You might also hang them over the crib's rail when your baby isn't inside the crib.

Purchasing a complete baby bedding set in the beginning may also save you money in the long run, as the set can be used for your child throughout the toddler years as well.

Or you can just keep it simple in the beginning and transform your child's room throughout the years just by purchasing a new bedding set.

The Great Things about a Folding Booster Car Seat

By Genie Parks

Safety laws have insist that children should be placed in booster seats until they're 6 or 8 because that's when they tend to be active and alert and their parents have to follow through each movement, requiring them to pick them up and let them go when they have to. The only means you can be comfortable in your travel with baby is through a folding booster car seat. The folding adjustable booster car seat is easy to fold and move from car to car unlike the regular ones that have stiff back support.

With a regular car seat, you cannot guarantee that your child is comfortably sitting, particularly for a long ride. More often the car seat is far too wide for him and he can easily slip off the belt. A regular car seat also has thinner pad that makes it less comfortable for a child, even for a toddler.

The best booster car seat should have thick pads to give baby enough comfort. Baby would be able to enjoy the view as he sits beside you in the long drove to the fields. Folding booster car seats also have other features that make it more useful such as comfortable neck rests, retractable cup holders for feeding time, and arm rests that make it easy for your bigger baby to move in and out from. There are several car seat sizes for a folding booster car seat. That is because a booster car seat is designed to hold the changing weight of a growing child which means you don't have to buy one when your child grows taller and heavier.

These folding booster car seats are also compliant with the standards of safety included in any car seat law. With a folding booster car seat, any parent is free from worry on his child's safety. Because of its folding capacity, it's compact and more convenient for you to stock in your car even with other people occupying it. You can easily pass the folding booster car seat from any part of the car to another with no hassles.

What could be the greatest advancement in child safety are belt positioning boosters. An older child has a different satisfaction level than that of a baby. A folding booster can give you and your child a lot of benefits. This patented feature makes storage and moving of the folding booster car seat more convenient for any parent. This booster seat is not only good for travels but for daily use as well. Its thick pads will provide your baby comfort and relaxation on long trips. Armrests that rotate make it easy to install since the belt path is unobstructed. Its rotating arms can make it easier for children to crawl in or out on their own. Its back support should be well in place while the height should be fully adjustable. There should be side support and protection for every position of the child. It's a good thing to have a headrest that has full EPS foam, making it easy to absorb impact. The six-point adjustable height will make the seat useful for a child as he grows from 3 to 10 years old and with a heavier weight. It may have a lot of features but it remains lightweight. A wide seat would hold much of a large and older child.

You Can't Be Too Careful When it Comes to Baby Medications

By Ashley King

When your baby is ill and requires medication, use caution when measuring out the dosage prescribed by your health care provider. While adults and older children might be able to get away with doses that are 'close enough' this is very risky for a baby.

With a baby being so much smaller you need to be aware that only a small variance in the dose can have a dramatic effect on the results. Even slight variations in weight will be taken into consideration when your doctor determines the medication dosage for your baby.

It's important to use the measuring device that came with the medication in order to administer the correct dosage. If your medication didn't come with one, you can easily purchase an accurate, reliable dosage measure at any pharmacy.

Don't give doses based on a teaspoon, as the size of teaspoons can vary greatly. You will run the risk of giving your baby a dosage that is either too high or too low, either of which can lead to problems. Even worse, you might be administering a dosage that will cause more harm than good to your baby.

It's important that you don't try to decide by yourself how much medication to give your little one. This can endanger your child's health without you realizing it. Always consult your medical practitioner first.

Natural health remedies are often very potent. Even though they are natural, they might not be completely safe for your baby. Natural remedies will affect your baby much differently than they would a grownup, and might even cause severe health problems.

Unfortunately there are far too many people who don't have the necessary knowledge to give you the best advice when selling these 'natural' products. More often than not they are doing harm without knowing it. So once again always seek professional advice before using natural products for your baby.

In your baby's early developmental stages it's safest to take the advice of a pediatrician or other reliable health care provider when it comes to baby care. A small baby can reach a serious level of illness quite quickly. It isn't worth the risk of using medication that could have a negative effect on your little one's health.

A simple christening gift does not matter. It will be truly appreciated. If you are not sure where to begin looking for great gifts, the following are some top gift ideas of what you may want to give for .

Religious Gift Ideas Since christenings usually take place in churches, many people decide to go with religious based christening presents. A little bible makes a wonderful christening present as it helps the children learn more about it as they grow up. A cross necklace makes an ideal christening gift. It is a beautiful means of showing the sacred side of that day wherein the baby can savor in a few year's time.

Non Traditional Gifts While traditional and religious gifts are lovely gift ideas, christening presents don't have to be religious or quite so traditional. There are less traditional gifts that are also available. If you are considering going with less traditional christening gifts, there are several options to consider. Framed name prints truly make a beautiful christening gift. Photo frames that are silver plated make lovely options, as do personalized photo albums. For Older Babies Not all babies that are getting christened are small newborns. Most of the babies are baptized only when they get a little older. Why not consider a bowel and cup set. It is something that they can make use of in a couple years. Capturing a special photo and having it framed is another excellent way that you can help to keep the memories from the special day in tact for them to enjoy as they grow older.

Many great ideas are available if you are purchasing christening presents. There are tons of christening presents available and you can select from the most affordable to the most expensive ones. Things to Consider When Choosing the Best Baby Monitor

By Josephine Archibald

There are a number of things you need to consider before making the purchase of a baby monitor. I shall now go through a few of the main points that are the most important so that you can then go on to make a wise choice as to which is best to suit your needs.

1. Think about the size of your home. Transmission distances vary amongst monitors " some do not transmit well through thick concrete walls and some transmit shorter distances than others. So if you have a large house this is certainly something you have to think about.

2.With cellular/mobile phones and cordless phones being so popular, ensure that the baby monitor you choose has multi channels, thus interference from phones should be at a minimum.

3. Consider if you need a one-way monitor or a two-way monitor. If a one-way then you can hear your child but they will be unable to hear you. The two-way will allow your child to hear you also, which may be important if your baby feels more comfortable with the sounds of you being close by.

4.You need to think if a video monitor is important. A video monitor will inevitably cost more than its non-video counterpart but obviously adds the value of visibility which can of course bring you extra peace of mind.

5.Portable baby monitors can be useful. They offer only a slight modification to many non-portable but if you are on the move all the time then you can hook a portable one safely and unobtrusively to your belt.

Other than those points mentioned above its also worth noting the following:

- ensure that the monitor is close to your child so you can hear even the slightest noises

- make sure any batteries are fully functioning and any adapters are also working properly

- ensure you can make it to your child's bedside within seconds, if the need arises

- if your child has the habit of waking quietly, it could be a good idea to leave a safe toy that makes a rattling or jingling noise next to them so you can hear when they awake

Great Uses for Framed Baby Carriers

By Erwin James Patterson

It's not easy to travel with your baby whether it's for short or long distance. The regular stroller would be too bulky and heavy to carry. Nor is it possible for you to carry your baby with your bare arms. If this situation sounds familiar, then you are one of them who would benefit the most from framed baby carriers.

This great equipment is intended for parents who love to travel and are always mobile. It is the perfect equipment for those weekend family camping trips, the daily walks to the lake pond, or short strolls to the nearby child's playground. This is also a great device for backpacking parents who love to travel abroad with baby safely carried on their back.

This great equipment has many features that make it really useful for all couples who have children. A baby carrier cover can give any parents the freedom from carrying their baby with their hands. The framed carrier's lightweight design which fits the spine's shape makes it easy to carry your baby as he fits in an independent child frame as they both go on the trek. That's why it is significant to look for framed baby carriers that have independent child frame.

Some carriers would strain your shoulders while carrying your baby on the back. This will make it even more difficult for the parent to carry the baby. Another feature that provides great comfort for the parents is the airflow access around the back to make it possible for dad or mom to keep on with the trek or hike without frequent stops because your back is sweaty and hurts. A kickstand will stabilize the carrier as you take out the baby for meal times or for him to walk on his own. It is also compact and easy to fold and put back up again, which makes it very handy to bring anywhere you go.

Parents can now bring their baby anywhere they want with framed baby carriers. Parents can now enjoy a great time with their baby as they both travel and go sight-seeing together.

Pink Infant Bedding for Your Child

By Dorothea Frankson

When you choose pink for your nursery you can include many themes, such as fairies, butterflies, and flowers. Now, she is too young to tell you what she likes or doesn't like, so pick a theme you'll be pleased with. Remember, you'll be in your baby's room almost as often as she will!

If your are thinking to buy the $500 crib set, which is usually not affordable, set your budget and do away with things that are not really essential. Plan this, well before you begin shopping. Plan before you shop to make your shopping comfortable and fruitful. Pink bedding for babies is wonderful. There are an astounding number of choices at any price point.

Among the necessary items for your new baby girl's room, the all-too important one is crib bedding for girls. There are additionally many, numerous matching frills so as to you can buy to pull the design together, but they are not compulsory for a functional nursery. Purchase the needed items first and then buy some accessories by remaining money. Go for a bedding set to be within your budget. This is the best option since these will usually include a blanket, crib sheet and bumper pad. Items such as dust ruffles, diaper stacker, picture frames, window valances or mobiles will be included in larger sets.

As you consider options for your baby's crib bedding, be sure that the sheets are soft, high quality cotton. Although there is a myriad of fabric choices when choosing a baby blanket, yet baby blankets made of fleece are advised since they are soft, comfortable, and hypoallergenic. To help protect against diaper leaks, a mattress pad will be a useful accessory.

There are differing views on whether or not to use baby bumpers, so you will have to decide for yourself what's best. When accessorizing your baby's crib, bumpers will prevent their head or limbs from getting stuck in the rails. All bumper pads and loose blankets should be removed from cribs due to a high risk of suffocation of newborns. When your daughter grows sufficiently to roll over and move, there is not much risk of hard breathing. But bumper pads are needed to avoid any injury.

Pink bedding has the advantage of being much more color-fast than darker colors, and if you choose cotton materials they are conveniently machine washable. Since a baby's skin is very sensitive, it is best to use gentle, fragrance-free detergents when laundering crib sets. Be sure that the crib is comfortable! Your baby will spend about 70% of his time in the crib.

Pink is a popular choice for a baby girl's bedding set, and since there are so many different shades of pink, there are many options if you decide on this color. If you choose to go for a modern look rather than pastels, then opt for Trend Lab's Maya baby bedding. You must remember that there so many bedding sets which are eye-catching but these may not have a pink stitch.

Is Your Baby Crib Bedding Harmful?

By Dorothea Frankson

Reports say that at least 15 % of the over 6000 deaths due to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) are caused by infants sleeping on soft baby crib bedding. Is the plave where your baby sleeps at night not a danger to her?

There is a risk of the infant suffocating if soft bedding is used. Especially if the head sinks into the bedding. Even though soft mattresses may seem like they are more comfortable, they can also prove to be much more dangerous. They might not have the strength to roll over to recover from the dangerous position and the fatal accidents might happen if no one is around to take good care of the little one and as infants are too weak, when their heads are being placed on the soft mattress.

Parents should make it a priority to test a baby's bedding by applying some weight to it. If it depresses under medium pressure, pass on it as it could lead to an accident. You can test this by pressing on the mattress to see if it may be too soft. The higher the resistance rating of your mattress is, the higher the quality.

Bumper pads in baby cribs pose a threat of suffocation. There is no doubt that the colors and designs are attractive but many recommend removing them from the crib as an infant who falls asleep with their tiny mouth up against the padding will have their movement and breathing restricted and can potentially suffocate.

As a parent, it is necessary to take extra precautions during this weak and vulnerable period in a baby's life. While some recommend firmer bumper pads, the best option is to remove bumpers from the crib entirely. The reason for this is that there are rare cases of strangulation by the bumper pad strings, and of suffocation between the pads and another object.

Research has shown that toxic gases, harmful to baby, are found in mattresses. Chemical compounds such as phosphouous and arsenic are being added to mattresses. They are used as fire retardants but can be very dangerous. Babies may die while sleeping as a result of inhaling hazardous chemicals that have reacted with other chemicals found in mattresses.

It's ironic but the fungus sometimes found in a baby's bedding, that we thought is harmful, is actually the one helping to release poisonous gases according to some findings. Consequently, they compel parents to purchase new bedding since old bedding is more likely to contain this fungus. To insure that no fungus is present, parents should be sure to buy new bedding for each new infant. Besides, new baby nursery bedding will be prettier and more personalized than an old, reused one anyway.

Use this criteria to determine if your baby bedding is safe. All the parents can sleep nicely in the night without any worries when they choose a safe bedding for their babies, if they did this their babies sound and a safe sleep.

Babysitter Search Options: Finding The Best Sitter

By Rashel Dan

You may be on the verge of a babysitter search. The question is, do you have any idea where you can even find good sitters? There are a couple of good places where you could start looking for a sitter. Here are some of them:

Neighborhood

Your community is a good place to start. Some of your teen neighbors may be willing to baby sit for you. You could also put up an ad on your front lawn and wait for community members to apply. Another way would be to personally ask your neighbors if they know of any good sitters. Many parents swear that this is by far still the best way to get a good sitter. Your neighbor can vouch for the ability and character of your sitter. Then again, even neighbors can make mistakes. They may not be fully aware of a sitter's entire background or history.

Schools

Another option would be to look for sitters in your local high school or colleges. Many students on these levels need some extra cash for school needs and extra expenses. Advertising in a few online or offline school boards would guarantee that you would have more than a handful of prospects.

Sitters from schools are also least likely to have any criminal records. Otherwise they wouldn't be in school. Nonetheless, you should still carefully screen applicants from schools to determine their character and ability.

Agencies

Agencies - Your babysitter search can also begin in agencies. Many agencies have been around for decades. They would therefore have a lot of experience in gathering good sitters. Agencies also provide you with the option of stay in or stay out sitters. They usually conduct background investigations on their applicants to ensure that you get a good sitter. Agencies however typically cost a lot. This is especially if you need to get a stay in sitter from another region or country. You may have to spend a thousand dollars or more to get a good sitter.

Advertisements

The Yellow Pages - People who wish to offer their services typically advertise. You can look through newspapers, yellow pages and even online job posts to find a baby sitter in your area. You would be hiring a virtual stranger though. This means that if you get a sitter through an advertisement, you would have to spend a great amount of time interviewing, screening and scrutinizing your prospects. You can never be too careful when it comes to the safety of your kids.

Online Services

Online services are similar to agencies. They have databases of sitter prospects that you can choose from. Many modern online services however charge cheaper. For a monthly or yearly membership fee, you can get a stay in or stay out sitter of your choice. Testing For Pregnancy? Do It Wisely!

By Alberta Dowse

It is a difficult time during that time of limbo when you think you are pregnant but you are unable to take a test because of the timing. All home kits have a recommended time of when to use them and for good reasons. When you take a test will affect the accuracy and lets face it you need to be accurate about something like this.

There are actually two types of tests you can take, one tests your blood and one tests your urine. Usually home tests use urine and the test the doctor does is using your blood. In both types of tests the hormone they are looking for is the same one, called HCG - human chorionic gonadotropin. It is between 6 and 8 days after ovulating that a blood test can be taken and fourteen for a urine one.

Most home tests are urine tests. They are usually easy to read, convenient and cheap and perhaps best of all they are private. You can react to the news however you wish to. Most tests suggest using the urine that is passed when you wake up in the morning as the HCG is easier to detect. If you get a positive result go and visit your doctor for a confirmation blood test and pelvic examination.

Take the test one day after your missed period. Any sooner and the test may have difficulty finding the HCG in the urine. The tests are not 100 per cent accurate, more around 90 per cent. So it may say you are not pregnant, when you are. If you are getting a negative but think you are pregnant take the test again in seven days. If you are still feeling doubt and still have not had that missed period, visit your doctor.

Pregnancy is an amazing thing to go through whether you sail through glowing all the way, or are bent for the most part over a toilet vomiting! The best thing you can do for your baby and yourself is to look after yourself. Get advice from your physician and do some reading so that you and your baby gets exactly what is needed.

Selecting the Finest Crib for Your Child

By Dorothea Frankson

Two essentials to look for in bedding for your baby are safety and warmth. One hundred percent cotton is the fabric of choice for baby bedding. Since there are many different types of baby beds, carefully choose as each one needs its own bedding.

When choosing a sleeping option for their newborn, many new parents choose Moses baskets. They can be used for the first 4 months or so, but they're not strong enough to support an older and heavier child. They also provide a solution if you want to be able to move your baby in order to keep a close eye on him or her. Even though bassinets usually come with adult style bedding (blankets and pillows), this is not recommend by doctors and you should remove them.

Cribs and cradles are very much alike, but cradles are often smaller and lower. The difference between a crib and a cradle is the rockers that make it easier to rock your baby to sleep. Many infants gain the ability to sit up by themselves between the ages of 4 and 7 months, and many parents choose to transition them to a crib during this same time.

Many child care specialists maintain that a crib is a perfect bed for a baby until they reach eighteen months. Regardless of which kind of crib you plan to buy, make sure it is sturdy and solid. You have some options when choosing a crib, you can go for the usual type or you can pick a portable crib which is more costly but great for traveling. An great alternative is a convertible crib. Most often convertible cribs can be also used as toddler beds, offsetting the more expensive initial cost. Choose a reliable company when you're making an important purchase like your baby's crib.

Baby blankets made of soft, non-toxic material are good for babies. Many blankets that are currently available appeal to all five senses, including ones that are soft to the touch and easy on the eyes.

Baby bedding sets can be specific to the sex of the baby, but you can also get ones that are suitable for both boys and girls. There are colors and images that can be used in either a boy or girl's room. the baby bedding for girls is replete with shades of pink, light blue and purples whereas for boys darker and bolder colors would satisfy. It's possible to avoid this: a lot of baby bedding comes in colors and motifs which are suitable for either sex.

Babies are not developed enough to understand our concept of gender. Babies are simply attracted to whatever they find stimulating. When a little boy grows up, he wont like it if his bed is done in feminine colors. Because baseball is more often associated with boys at a young age than girls, we can assume that most girls would not get much out of a room that had a baseball theme.

A large number of options are available when choosing baby bedding, thereby making the choices fun as well as frustrating. There is so much to choose from, once you have decided what you want, you will surely find it. When you're exploring the options, the range of beds and badding available can be bewildering. Planning ahead is the best solution to making a budget. This will help keep you on track and not be distracted by crib sets that are not what you want or that are out of your budget.

Creating A Baby Safe Nursery

By Bennett Rudolph

Preparing for the arrival of your baby is an exciting time with all baby room decorating and buying the things your new baby will need. Not only does the opportunity provide you a time to exercise your ability to nurture a child, it also enhances your creativity when designing the babies nursery.

When it comes to setting up your babies nursery there are some pretty specific safety issues that need to be taken into account. Given the sensitivity of the child?s entire health, it is important to make sure that his/her safety is of prime concern during the making of the nursery.

Knowing that you have done everything possible to make your babies nursery as safe as possible will give a certain peace of mind and allow you to focus on the other things a new baby will need. There is always the thought of using bright colors that will help stimulate their growth and learning. These ideas often encourage the development of a babies sense of sight.

Color of walls and bedding is a factor that is often overlooked in terms the psychological effects upon children. Certain colors can make them feel restless or irritable at times. Light shades of colors are often more advisable to use in nurseries.

Selecting the right crib is extremely important for safety and your childs comfort during sleep. You must also choose a relaxing color to make them feel soothed and warmed.

A lot of parents make the mistake of over stuffing the crib with a lot of toys. This can be very harmful for the baby while they are on their own. They may unnecessarily put the objects in their mouth or be injured by hard objects. You may only want to use pillows, blankets and stuffed toys for your childs crib.

The other toys should be placed in a toy box or other suitable container. You also would not want to cause any form of suffocation to your child while sleeping.

Finally the use of a baby monitor will allow you to keep constant tabs on your baby while you go about your busy routine. This will alert you should the baby awaken while you are, say, in the kitchen or in other parts of the house.

Budget Crib Sheets Can Be Sound and Agreeable

By Dorothea Frankson

Expectant parents purchasing bedding for their new baby want to know what safety and comfort features they should be looking for.

A young infant requires utmost care when being handled and a great deal of affection. When it comes to material, be careful to choose cloth that is right for an infant's skin since a newborn's skin is more delicate and tends to develop skin rashes when it touches some types of material. It is important and wise to purchase the most comfortable bedding for your baby, not the most expensive, but the bedding that will help your child sleep sound. You must remember to buy fabric suited for the age of your baby. Crib sheets, along with newborns' clothing is safer and more comfortable if made from 100% cotton. Cotton products are not always safe.

Mass market produced cotton is full of pesticides and made with substances that cause cancer. Organic baby bedding and clothing is preferable because newborns tend to have sensitive skin. When a baby's health is a risk, not many people would take issue in selecting bedding that's a bit more expensive.

Parents and their children today are more fortunate than in previous generations because there were not ready-made available for purchase baby bedding crib sets. Parents can select safe bedding in various sizes colors and materials to give their baby's room a creative and unique look. Soft and safe doesn't have to mean plain looking crib bedding. Many different styles are available for the different bedding brands, so frugal soon-to-be parents have a variety of choices. Baby bedding can be inexpensive, but after paying close attention to the label, if it shows made of 100% cotton, you've found yourself a deal.

Baby bedding manufacturers have kept pace with today's creative plans for their babies' nurseries. There was once a time when baby rooms were decorated in the same predictable pink, blue, yellow, white; but that's not the case anymore. There are endless, comfortable possibilities of styles and design options for bedding for your baby's nursery.

Being on the lookout for sales and comparing prices of similar items can help you get the crib bedding you want without going over your limit. If you do not rush, you can invariably find something really special, no matter what your budget. If your buying sets or separates, be aware that sets offer more for the money. Bedding collections consist of a minimum of one bumper, sheet and comforter; a lot of collections also have extra attachments such as a dust ruffle or a mobile. Doctors don't suggest the use of comforters or bumper pads, so it makes sense to just buy the separate pieces you'll be using.

Consider how long you will need to use the baby bedding. If your expectations are that your baby will not sleep in the crib you purchase for any great length of time then don't spend money excessively for nursery decor. If you plan to have several children, you should buy quality material. It pays to spend more for excellent quality gender neutral bedding that will last a long time so you can use it not only at present but also for any future children.

Why I would Never Be Without an Infant Ear Thermometer

By Chloe Wells

If your baby is under the weather your doctor will normally suggest that you monitor their body temperature. There are two reasons for this. Firstly it gives you an indication of the status of the illness - a falling temperature could indicate that the illness is getting better while a rising temperature could indicate that the illness is getting worse. Secondly, it enables you to ensure that core body temperature does not rise to dangerously high levels.

Up until very recently the favored method of monitoring a baby's temperature was via the rectal route. Although this gives a very accurate temperature reading the disadvantages of this approach are obvious. Firstly it requires planning and cooperation. Secondly it is unpleasant for your baby and not particularly kind if he or she is already feeling unwell. Thirdly, it takes time for the reading to stabilize.

Baby ear thermometers now represent a great alternative to conventional methods but it is only recently that their use has become widespread. This is largely down to a significant reduction in costs over recent years. Costs were previously prohibitively high for home use.

Unlike traditional thermometers baby ear thermometers do not measure temperature through conduction and expansion of a liquid. They work by monitoring the amount of IR radiation emitted by the body. Using some fairly complex technology and calculations it is possible to obtain a very accurate indication of body temperature.

Use of the ear has other advantages over alternative routes. Firstly, in comparison to the mouth, the reading is not affected by a recent cold or warm drink. The ear drum also shares a blood supply with the part of the brain that is responsible for regulating body temperature so temperature in the ear reflects core body temperature very accurately. In comparison, the temperature of the rectum can lag behind core body temperature giving a less accurate reading. The ear canal is also very accessible and does require extensive cooperation to use.

Generally speaking baby ear thermometers are very easy to use. You normally just place them in the ear canal, push a button and wait for a second or so for the result to appear on the display. Some of the very best also provide you with feedback while you are using them. For example they will tell you when the thermometer is in the correct place to give a reading and also tell you when an accurate reading has been obtained. Some even warm up the ear piece to avoid discomfort and increase the accuracy of the reading.

Although predominantly intended for babies there is absolutely no reason why they can't be used by other members of the family - even up to adults. They are also very easy to clean so there is no risk of transferring ear infections from one member of the family to the other.

Although there are many options available to all parents baby ear thermometers represent one of the most practical and cost effective methods of monitoring your baby's body temperature during illness. They are extremely easy to use and the costs now make them an option for all families. They are a great investment which you will use again and again.

Organic Baby Nursery Bedding - Benefits and Considerations

By Bee Fraley

If you are worried about your baby's thin skin absorbing the pesticides and fertilizers that can be found in non-organic baby bedding, you will want to purchase nursery bedding that is made from organic cotton.

Even after conventional cotton is harvested, the baby bedding manufacturers use chlorine bleach and toxic dyes to achieve bright whites are varies colors, while organic baby bedding manufacturers use only non-toxic coloring agents.

In organic comforters, bumpers and pillows, not only the outer shell is organic, but also the stuffing made from organic cotton or organic sheep wool. The sheep wool provides resistance to the growth of bacteria and dust mites.

Organic wool comes from sheep that are raised organically. These sheep are moved around to prevent overgrazing which could make the farm land infertile.

Another benefit of organic wool is that it is naturally flame retardant and therefore doesn't require any chemical fireproofing. Because it doesn't need to be treated with harsh pesticides, is is also softer than no-organic wool.

You can do your part for making this earth a little greener and benefit from the softness and durability of purchasing 100% organic baby bedding at the same time. Organic bedding does cost more, but with the health and comfort of your baby at risk, it's a no-brainer. How to Choose Nursery Curtains

By Alice Ault

We know you are probably thinking "What in the world is the big deal about nursery curtains?" Firstly, they are very important to consider. There are some things that you need to know before you decide about the types of nursery curtains that you would put in your baby's nursery.

The type of curtains that you choose should be well thought out whenever much of the nursery is finished. There are some qualities to consider in the type of nursery curtains that you will choose.

Firstly, we want the curtains to match the rest of the room, and probably the baby nursery bedding too. They don't have to be anything that is over fancy. However, if you have a little daughter and the room is already girly, you want them to match the rest of the room. Color and design do matter when you are trying to chose nursery curtains.

Something else you will want to consider would be the thickness of the curtains. Are they thick enough to where you can't see anything through them? Are they stopping draughts from entering through during the winter months? These are questions that you want to ask before you make your final choice. We also are looking for quality because we want to keep the same nursery curtains all throughout the baby's childhood.

Another thing to consider is the curtain length. Whether you like it or not, the baby will get bigger and will be able to reach the curtain to bring it down. That is of course, if we buy it a little too long. Remember that we want to keep these curtains for quite a long time. It is suggested to choose curtains that are not too long so that the baby can't pull on them when he is learning to walk.

With the many choices in nursery curtains out there, we hope we covered the essentials as far as the type of curtain to buy. Nursery decoration should feel homey for the baby and at the same time look attractive and be of good quality.

As there are so many different ones to choose from finding one that is perfect for them can prove a challenge. In this article we look at the advantages of 2-in-1 pushchairs over say the more traditional pram or a 3-in-1 pushchair.

The first thing that parents to be will notice with this type of pushchair is that the part in which the baby will travel can be easily converted from a pram into a pushchair just through the pressing of a number of buttons or levers. Plus to further ensure that the baby is kept safe and secure when travelling in this kind of pushchair the makers provide a fabric apron and hood.

So for what reasons should parents to be consider purchasing this type of pushchair instead of the 3-in-1 kind or a traditional pram? In this article we look at some of the advantages to parents of purchasing this type of pushchair.

Advantage 1 " These pushchairs are suitable for using immediately after a baby has been born and until they reach the age of around 3. Normally by the age of 3 most children have outgrown sitting in a pushchair or stroller and prefer to be walking around by themselves.

Advantage 2 - As with the 3-in-1 pushchairs this type allows the part in which the child is travelling to be removed completely from the chassis without too many problems.. The handles that it has on the sides then allows the parents if they wish to use it as a carrycot.

Advantage 3 " During the first few weeks a baby will spend quite a considerable amount of time sleeping and because this pushchair can be placed in a fully reclined position it allows them to sleep when they want. However, as the baby grows older and becomes more aware of its surrounding and finds it easier to sit up the carriage part can be put into the upright position when required, but then reclined when the child becomes sleepy.

Advantage 4 " One thing that may determine whether parents to be choose this type of pushchair over some of the others is the cost. These ones tend to cost considerably less than the 3-in-1 pushchairs and there are far less attachments to take off of them. A 3-in-1 pushchair often comes with a separate car seat attachment, pushchair attachment and carrycot attachment.

Advantage 5 " Because the carrycot and the pushchair convert from one to the other this particular style of pushchair comes with the safety harness attached. So not only can it be worn by the baby when sat up and may be when they are laid down offer some additional protection. To ensure that the harness does not rub on the baby a special liner or mattress is included.

In this article we have shown you some of the advantages of 2-in-1 pushchairs and which may help you to make a more informed decision as what will the be right sort of pram or pushchair for your child. But don't forget these one's don't come with a car seat and so when the child needs to go in a vehicle you must ensure that you use a good quality one of these.
