Tips For Giving A Thoughtful Gift To Expecting or New Parents

By Bella Holly

There's nothing better than surprising expectant or new parents with a memorable, thoughtful gift to celebrate their new baby. One of the most popular and unique gifts you can give is a customized new baby gift basket.

For purchasing the right items find out as much information as possible about the baby. If it is an expectant birth, try to find out the gender. That will help you pick the colors. Colors for boys are typically blue and pink for girls. A general rule of thumb is, if you don't know the sex of the baby, stick with yellow.

Creating baby gift baskets are fun. The best baby gift baskets have both items the baby will enjoy and that are beneficial to parents as well. Start with a theme and colors. If you choose pink, then everything in the basket should match with pink. You could actually use shades of pinks and white.

If you want to jazz up your baby basket, you can always decide on using a theme. If you're having trouble thinking of one, you might try something like "music." A music-themed basket is great because you can include lots of goodies like musical toys and CD's. Many babies find music very soothing, and it just might save the parents a bit of sanity to have some baby music on hand!

You can't go wrong with baskets filled with other needed items like a thermometer, an assortment of socks, towels, and bottles. For entertainment, a baby gift basket could contain a nice keepsake picture frame or a few baby books.

Whether you decide to purchase your basket or make one yourself, the new parents and baby are sure to enjoy the thought you will have put into giving such a unique and charming gift.

8 Things You Should Know When Buying a Baby Monitor

By Twyla Ness

One of the greatest helps for active parents nowadays are baby monitors. With a baby monitor, you are not only given more freedom of activity around the home, but you can also offer better protection for your children, even when it's impractical for you to be right by their side. But new parents may find it difficult to choose a baby monitor that is suitable for them, because there are so many different varieties available. To help you out, following are a few guidelines that should be taken into consideration as you're searching for a good monitoring device.

1. Clarity of reception and low static are the most important issues. These are vital qualities that will help to ensure the wellbeing of your child. It's of the utmost importance that you can clearly hear your baby's movements.

2. To keep tabs on your little one as you are working throughout the house, choose a baby monitor that comes with a compact and portable receiver that can be comfortably carried around.

3. Lots of baby monitors come equipped with belt clips so that the parents can transport the device hands free. Inspect it carefully, though, to make certain it can handle regular use without breaking.

4. Some products flash their lights whenever they detect a sound from the baby's room. These are perfect for times when you might be sidetracked by other noisy sounds such as the dishwasher or vacuum.

5. Also look for a monitor that has a low battery indicator, which will warn you in lots of time before the battery runs out. If your receiver battery runs out and you don't notice, you'll have a sense of false security.

6. It is important to select the proper bandwidth and range, according to your requirements. If your house is large in size, then a broader range baby monitor will be needed. A smaller home or apartment won't require as wide a range, especially if there is a lot of interference from cell phones and other equipment that could interrupt the signals.

7. Are you thinking about a wireless monitor? You should be aware that you may have difficulties with the signal of these devices. You and your next-door neighbors may use similar channels and end up hearing sounds from each other's homes. Your signal may also get disturbed by your cordless phone, so choose a model with anti-disturbance features or extra security during use.

8. The most advanced baby monitors nowadays offer video capability in addition to sound monitoring. This is useful, but the fact is you can't keep your eyes glued to a video screen all day long. You might as well just remain with the baby. Just remember that great sound quality should not be given up for fancy features.

The best baby monitor isn't always the most expensive one. Opt for a unit that meets your requirements and is tough enough for day to day use. Most significantly, it must have all the features you need to guarantee your little one's protection.

Every Parent Needs To Know More About Safe Toddler Toys

By Matt Safe

It is important to learn about safe toddler toys, in order to ensure that your children will be safe playing with them. Certainly all parents want to keep their children safe. But how can we know if a toy is safe?

Age recommendations are included on most toddler toys. This will give you an idea of where to begin when choosing a toy. You certainly would not want to purchase a toy which contains many small parts, and is intended for a much older child, for a toddler. These age recommendations remove the guess work for many grandparents, and others who are purchasing a gift for someone else's child.

Toys with small parts should never be given to a child under the age of three years. Children in this age group frequently put objects into their mouths. This presents a serious choking hazard. Children are very quick, and even though some people believe that they will have time to intervene if this happens, sadly, it is seldom the case. Toddlers should always be given age appropriate toys.

You certainly want a toddler's toys to inspire creativity, and exploration. You do not however, want them to create frustration. Choosing a safe toy for toddler which is beyond a child's physical or cognitive ability can quickly become a source of irritation, rather than enjoyment. Remember, children like to play with many simple objects, keep things as undemanding and fun as possible. Allow them to just play, this is the best learning experience.

Painted toys are a bit of a dilemma. Unfortunately, many of these toys are manufactured in countries with standards that do not meet proper safety requirements. There has in fact been an influx of painted toys containing lead paint, distributed in many places. If you decide to purchase a painted toy, you should be sure to take a look at the country where it was manufactured. Find out what the safety standards and requirements are. If you have any doubts, it is probably best not to buy the toy.

It is important that your toddler's toys are washable. Again, small children tend to put everything into their mouths. Germs can be very quickly spread, through a contaminated toy which has not been properly cleaned. Toys which are made out of fabric, must be both washable, and flame resistant.

Many people do not consider a pull toy to be a potential hazard. You absolutely must always make sure that the strings and pull cords on these toys are an appropriate length. A string that is too long can very sadly become a cause for strangulation. A child will not be able to call out, and let you know that they are in trouble if this happens. Keep these strings short enough that they can not become wrapped around a child's neck.

If you want to know about safe toddler toys, it is important that you watch your toddler's behavior and habits.

Newborn Baby Clothes - Ten Must Haves

By Paula Heron

There is a lot of preparation and planning involved to make sure everything is in place for when you bring your new baby home for the first time. The crib needs to be ready, you need to ensure you have enough diapers for the first few days and of course enough newborn baby clothes so you dont have to do laundry every day.

There are now lots of specialist baby stores such as Babies R Us where you can find everything under one roof. And stores such as Wal-Mart, Target and Burlington Coat Factory also have specialist baby sections where again you can find everything for your new baby. At least when everything is under one roof you don't have to trek from store to store.

Buying baby equipment is fairly straight forward you need: 1 crib, 1 stroller and 1 car seat, obviously you are expecting a multiple birth the numbers will increase accordingly. But if you are a first time parent how do you know how many baby clothes your baby will need for the first few weeks?

There is no definitive number of clothes you need for your new baby whether they are baby boy clothes or baby girl clothes. Experienced moms would suggest that practical, easily laundered baby clothes make life a lot simpler in the first few weeks. Baby clothes that are easy to put on and make diaper changing easier are good.

Practical baby clothes are all that your newborn and you need in the early weeks there will be plenty of time for the more trendy baby clothes when you've both got the hang of this dressing business! Below is a list of ten items considered essential for a new baby.

* 5-10 Onesies - you may want more, the plain ones are great under tops and pants and there are some really cute ones for the warmer weather.

* 5-10 baby one piece sleeper suits - these are great for day wear during the first few weeks.

* For use during those night-time diaper changes, have 4-5 baby gowns because they make the job a lot easier.

* 5-10 bibs - although babies don't take solid food they do have a tendency to drool and spit up.

* Burp cloths: lots and lots of these so that your clothes are protected and you're not constantly changing yourself as well as baby.

* Keep baby's feet warm with socks, no matter how well the home is heated. You'll need 5 pairs of those.

* Hats: 2, and choose which type of hat (for example, sun hats or knitted hats) depending on the season and the weather in your part of the country.

* 1 coat, appropriate to the weather and season where you live.

* Hooded towels: 2-3. One will keep baby snug and warm after a bath.

* Avoid the scratches that babies are so good at inflicting on themselves by having at least two pairs of cotton mittens.

How many of each of these types of clothes you need will depend on how frequently you're able to do the laundry, so please don't regard the recommended numbers on this list as exact. In addition, you may want to have additional clothes for special occasions. However, I recommend that you treat what I've shown in this list as an essential set of newborn baby clothes so that the day to day diaper changing and dressing jobs are as easy as they can be.

Infant Reflux Product For Babies

By Robert Cox

If you as an adult have ever experienced acid reflux, then you understand why infant reflux and sleep problems typically go hand in hand. It can be unbearable the amount of pain that acid reflux causes and so you often are not able to go to sleep and can barely even move when it is serious. The same goes for infants, and so if you are wondering why they are staying up at night and finding it hard to sleep, now you know.

Infant reflux and sleep problems are even more serious than in adults however, because babies are so tiny and they really need their sleep. Also, they do not understand what is going on and they don t know why they can t go to sleep and so they will just continue to get more frustrated and upset, and it is not their fault at all.

There are a few different treatment options that your doctor could choose to try to help with the infant reflux and sleep problems that your baby is experiencing. The first thing that they will probably tell you to do is try a different formula. More often than not, it is what you are feeding your baby that is causing them to spit up and be upset because of their acid reflux.

Treatment

If your baby is suffering from acid reflux, and you would rather not turn to an infant reflux medicine, at least not right away, then you should know that there are a few infant reflux product options that you could try, and which just may offer the relief for your baby that you are looking for. These infant reflux product options have worked for millions of babies around the world, and there are a few that you are definitely going to want to learn more about.

Infant Reflux Pillow

One infant reflux product that you will definitely want to try is the infant reflux pillow. This is a special pillow that is designed to treat infants with acid reflux. It works by propping the infant s head up a bit higher than it would normally be, so that at night while they are sleeping it is going to be harder for the acid to travel back up into the esophagus and cause them pain, and so it should ward off the acid reflux until their tummies are more grown and able to handle it and fight off the acid on its own.

This is a great infant reflux product to try however you will have to be careful because doctors advise that you do not use pillows with babies while they are still that young. This is a specially designed pillow and so it does not pose threat as much as a normal pillow, but nonetheless while your baby is going through this difficult time you are going to want to keep an eye on them.

The Burp Rag

This is a great infant reflux product to try however you will have to be careful because doctors advise that you do not use pillows with babies while they are still that young. This is a specially designed pillow and so it does not pose threat as much as a normal pillow, but nonetheless while your baby is going through this difficult time you are going to want to keep an eye on them.

These are two great products, but if you want to learn about all the rest so that you can make sure that you are going to be getting the right products, along with appropriate treatment for your child, then you are going to want to talk to their doctor or another medical professional to make sure that you are getting what you need to help your baby here.

This is another infant reflux product, but one that is basically there to help with the mess. While adults usually do not spit up when they have acid reflux, unless it is very serious, with babies this is actually one of the main symptoms. With a burp rag around you are going to always have something that you can use to clean baby off, because the last thing that you want is this acidy spit up to be left on their face.

If you as an adult have ever experienced acid reflux, then you understand why infant reflux and sleep problems typically go hand in hand. It can be unbearable the amount of pain that acid reflux causes and so you often are not able to go to sleep and can barely even move when it is serious. Understanding the Causes of Eczema in Babies

By Alisa Ferr

If your baby is having problems with eczema, it is important that you find out as much as you can concerning this health issue. Although there isn't a cure for eczema, most babies will grow out of it over time. And baby eczema is very treatable.

What causes a child to acquire eczema? It could be genetic in nature. Since eczema has a propensity to be hereditary in origins, especially if your family is prone to allergies, a good starting point is to check your family history to establish if someone else is prone to this health condition.

Sometimes your food intake throughout pregnancy could bring about the ailment. Or your baby might be experiencing an allergic reaction to certain medicines that you're taking at the same time as you're nursing. If you are no longer breastfeeding, you may want to investigate the kind of formula or milk that your infant is being given. This can sometimes be a cause of eczema, as well.

You might wish to think about trying soy formula or milk instead of regular cow's milk. If the baby eczema continues, your subsequent option would be to try goat's milk, which is commonly easily obtainable. But if none of these readily accessible food products is effective, you should consider buying special formula on the recommendation of your health care provider. Usually these products are able to be paid for through your health coverage.

Further possibilities to consider aside from switching over to a different type of milk comprise using topical creams and lotions to manage the problem. There are particular products that are specially created for healing of baby eczema. There are no petroleum products included in the components of these lotions, and they don't penetrate your child's skin, so they are normally considered to be harmless. Other mild formulations contain ingredients including aloe, which helps to ease dehydrated skin and itch.

If your little one's problem is serious, your pediatrician may give you a prescription for a ointment that contains cortisone as a short term measure. However, these medicines have side effects for example making the skin thinner. They also make your child seem somewhat puffy. However once the medication has accomplished its task and you've stopped using it, your baby's appearance will come back to normal.

Nonetheless, eczema in infants has a tendency to reappear now and again, so don't be alarmed if the problem clears up and then rematerializes down the road. Sometimes this problem is seasonal too, so your child may have more outbreaks of baby eczema during the winter season. Something to be aware of for later on in your baby's life is that whenever they are under pressure they are more prone to a flare up of the situation.

From Disposable To Cloth Diaper - A Smart Switch

By Adam Webster

Having a baby means you're going to have to spend a lot of money on a lot of things. When you buy disposable diapers, and constantly have to buy more, the cost adds up very quickly and can become overwhelming. The cloth diaper option is one not very well explored since it's simply not that well known. However, it's better than losing money all the time.

Of course, many people are going to have more than one kid, and when you have several, the cost of diapers is going to rise astronomically. With everything else you're going to have to buy, do you really want to spend up to thousands of dollars diapering all your kids? It's time to turn away from disposable diapers for good and realize there's a better option.

People often think cloth diapers will make for a lot more work. Yet, these can actually save the effort they'd have to put into disposables. Among other things, there's no need for a diaper service, which also saves you a lot of money. But you'll also have a better product overall, and one that will protect without any chance of leaking or pinning your baby.

Many people cringe at the idea of cleaning cloth diapers, and it can take some getting used to, but it soon becomes easy. Past an initial rinse, all that's needed is to run them through the washing machine with some vinegar and baking soda to help get them clean. Also, if you get the fitted all-in-one diapers, you won't even have to worry about plastic covers.

There are many good things about making the switch. Again, the money saved is the first thing that comes to most people's minds. When you first buy everything you'll need, it might seem like quite a heavy price tag. However, remember that this is basically a one time investment and you won't need to keep buying more the way you used to.

You're not the only one who will appreciate your use of cloth diapers - you're also greatly reducing the amount of waste you produce. Countless diapers are sitting in landfills, decomposing at a very slow rate and having a problematic effect on the environment. You can rest easy, though, knowing you aren't contributing to this in any way at all.

Besides fitted all-in-one diapers, you'll have many things to choose from. In addition to this option, there are pre-folded and fitted ones without covers. You can also select fold-your-own or pin them, among many other possible alternatives. You can often even sew them yourself right at home, especially if you don't have a lot of money on hand for initial expenses.

True, in the past, there were a lot of difficulties that came along with cloth diapers. Now, however, the process is much easier, and as you'll be helping yourself and the world out at the same time, there's no reason not to use them. Soon, you'll be well adept to the process, and before long, you'll be recommending them to everyone you know.

Caring For Your New Baby's Clothes

By Paula Heron

Nowadays there is increasing emphasis on the delicacy and sensitivity of babies' skin and this can cause parents to worry about the best products to use and how best to care for their baby clothes. Should they use a special detergent? Do they have to wash all the baby items separately from the rest of the family laundry?

Apart from a minority of families, the extra strain on the family budget of preparing for and bringing up a baby is significant. So any opportunity to eliminate increased costs such as special baby detergent is helpful. After all, raising a baby is expensive enough - not only is there the initial purchase of baby clothes and bedding, diapers, a crib, a stroller and other equipment, but the ongoing costs of medical expenses, food and everything else is material.

There are lots of detergents on the market that claim to be specifically for baby clothes but often they are little different than regular detergents. Although you need to be aware that some detergents may cause irritation to a baby's skin the same can actually be true for adults. Generally if you use a gentle detergent without added perfume or colors you should find that these are suitable and can be used for the family laundry as well.

One point to bear in mind is that manufacturers use specific and sometimes irritating chemicals in preparing their clothes for final presentation out in the stores, so you should make sure that all new baby clothes and bedding are washed carefully before first using them on your child. The same is true of hand-me-downs and used clothes given to you by your family members or your friends - a gentle wash before first putting them on your baby will minimize the risk of any rash developing. And of course a medical professional should be asked to check out any rash that develops right away.

Many new parents worry about whether it is safe to wash baby clothes with the rest of the family's laundry. I think this must be a fairly recent worry as it was something I never even thought about when I had my own children in the 1970s. Providing you use a mild detergent for the wash loads there should be no problems. After all you are cuddling and caring for your baby in the same clothes as you will be washing with theirs without causing any irritation!

There is one exception to bear in mind, though. If you are using cloth diapers, separate washing is required. Use the toilet bowl to rinse away any solid waste, keep them in a bucket of water until you have collected enough to form a washer load and add a tiny amount of tea tree oil to the bucket to deodorize and disinfect them in the meantime.

If you use fabric conditioner in your laundry routine make sure that you use one that is specifically for sensitive skin to avoid any irritation to your baby's skin. Some washing detergents contain fabric softeners but if you are in doubt it is better not use them.

Pay attention to how you tumble dry your baby clothes to avoid shrinking them. Use a low or gentle heat setting, otherwise you may find that your baby outgrows them even faster than you expect!

For centuries babies have suffered no ill effects from having their baby clothes washed with the family laundry and I feel sure that twenty first century babies will thrive equally well.

Wish You Could Conceive A Girl?

By Kathy Forcey

Are you wishing that you had a little girl to round out your family of rambunctious boys? What if someone walked up to you right now and told you that they could teach you how to conceive a girl, would you believe it? Well, the good news is that it is possible. Women all across the globe are able to have little girls because of the techniques they chose.

How to conceive a girl can be accomplished by using either the natural process or you could go the clinical process. Clinical procedures will certainly carry a higher success rate for conceiving a girl, but it is still not a 100% guarantee. That is nearly impossible without some invasive and costly procedures that may present emotional issues for many folks.

To be able to select the sex of a baby is something that many would-be parents dream of. You should be aware of a few basic facts about human biology. You probably already know about the X and Y chromosomes and the role they play in determining gender. Male sperm carry both X and Y chromosomes and thus they are the determining factor in whether you'll have a boy or girl.

What many people may not be aware of is the lifespan of sperm once it leaves the male's body. Sperm can live up to 5 to 7 days inside the female body depending on the reproductive environment, such as whether she is ovulating and cervical mucus conditions, etc.

Once sperm enters the female reproductive tract, and considering that there is a fifty/fifty chance of a boy or girl, how to conceive a girl becomes a matter of which sperm, X or Y reaches the ripened egg first. Female or X sperm is known to be stronger but moves more slowly than male or Y sperm which is weaker but moves more rapidly.

Take note of your ovulation cycle. You will need to know when you are ready to ovulate. If you have sex right before you ovulate and then abstain, you will increase the likelihood of conceiving a girl. Therefore, the timing of sexual intercourse is extremely important. The theory behind this is that since the X sperm will outlive the Y sperm, there will be more X sperm present in the female reproductive tract when the egg is released and ready for fertilization.

How to conceive a girl seems like it might take a bit of effort to work successfully, but judging by the number of happy couples who use natural techniques to conceive and give birth to baby girls, it is certainly worth the effort. Remember that no guarantees can be made other then you'll cherish your new baby, boy or girl.

Baby High Chair Safety

By Matthew Byrd

Baby highchairs are something you?ll need for your child as soon as they are old enough to sit up on their own; this is typically around six months of age. There are some models which recline to be suitable for infants, but in general, you won?t need one until your child can sit up.

Highchairs usually come with a lot of features, many of which are geared towards the parent rather than the child. Your baby really doesn't need the chair to have wheels or be foldable for easy storage, but you'll find these useful features. More important for your infant's comfort are padded seat covers and adjustable height, as well as foot rests which are adjustable.

Many highchairs can be converted to play tables by the use of an insert which goes over the tray to give your child a surface to play on. You can also choose from highchairs which have larger trays; this keeps the mess to a minimum ? and every parent knows how messy of an eater their infant or toddler can be. Inset cup holders are another common feature which adds convenience to highchairs.

The base of the highchair should be broad and stable to help prevent the highchair from tipping. If your child leans over the side the chair could tip and injure your child. It is best then to teach your child to sit up all the time.

When looking at highchairs some people express opinions about what the highchair is made of. There are all wood chairs that tend to not be adjustable in height. There are metal framed highchairs with plastic trays and there are highchairs that are all plastic.

There are things you can do to make the highchair safe place to be. Never leave your child unattended to go grab a bib, food, or answer the phone. It only takes a second for your baby to have an accident. You should have everything ready before putting your child in the chair.

Your child should be securely strapped into their highchair so that they do not fall out and injure themselves. Older children can be trapped between the chair and the tray - remember that the feeding tray will not hold your child in place.

Foldable highchairs need to be locked open before you seat your child. You should test your chair's locking mechanism regularly to ensure that this is in good shape.

Never place your child in a highchair within reach of anything which they could push against and tip themselves over. Make sure that there are no cords, wires or any other hazards within your baby's reach.

Keep your child's fingers away from the tray as you lock it onto the highchair to prevent pinches and cuts. Make sure that the tray is secure by giving it a soft tug. A tray which is loose can be dangerous for your infant.

Wear of the high chair can be hazardous. If the vinyl cover over foam is torn the baby could ingest small pieces of foam. Worn locking mechanisms could prevent the tray from staying in place. All belts and clasps should be checked for fraying or tears. Check the clasps for missing pieces or cracks. Cracked or chipped trays could cause injury or harbor germs. This type of check should be done before purchasing a second hand chair as well.

Important Precautionary Steps To Take Before You Find A Baby Sitter

By Rashel Dan

Hiring a babysitter for the household is getting more and more popular among families. No longer are sitter just for the highly privileged families"numerous middle-class families are considering this type of childcare for more safety, flexibility with time and convenience.

One of the advantages of having a babysitter around for your kids is that it can minimize the stress while you are working over-time, for instance. This is especially true for busy parents who can suddenly have changes in plans and out-of-town appointment. Now, they have the option of contacting the agency you trust and having someone come over to your home right away. So what considerations must you take before deciding on a babysitter? Lets find out.

The first step is to really check on the qualifications of the potential babysitter. Its advised to hire babysitters who have already taken some form of babysitting training, such as babysitting classes. The majority of temporary babysitters are teens who have their own tight schedules. They have hours of schooling to do, homework, extracurricular activities, friends to meet and chores to complete in their own home.

Perhaps the best choice is to find professional babysitters who have had actual training to do the job right. A great way to find professional babysitters is to jump online. Not only is using the Internet fast and convenient, but it can also be safe and reliable if you just know where to look and what to consider.

Keep in mind to search for a sitter who is dependable, responsible and of course, available. Find an agency online"not just any agency though. Make sure the website you are looking at is reputable and has served customers for a considerable amount of time. Ask around if they have heard of such an agency. Obtaining referrals are always a good idea.

Before you hire a babysitter, you have a number of considerations to take into heart. Do not hire babysitters who are below 13 years of age. Young children generally call for older babysitters, who typically have more maturity and experience in caring for infants. Consider hiring babysitters who are familiar with CPR and first aid. Inquire about the sitters training, what age groups he or she worked with and the length of time he or she has been babysitting.

Learn more about the potential babysitter. Set up an interview to personally evaluate the potential babysitters sense of responsibility, understanding of children, temperament, ability to comprehend and abide by the rules or instructions, common sense, and so on. See to it that your kids are comfortable with the sitter. And finally, consider the costs"ask around how much your friends, colleagues and neighbors are paying for their sitters. Of course, quality of care must come first.

Some parents would want a trial run with many babysitters to establish who works best with your kids. If its your first time hiring a sitter, consider spending at least an hour at home while the sitter is watching over your kids. This is a good way to observe how much you can actually trust him or her. Use your gut feeling"if there is anything that makes you even the slightest uncomfortable with the sitter, do not bother hiring.

Baby Halloween Costumes Too Cute to Resist Buying This Year

By Susan West

If you're a child, Halloween is the best opportunity to dress up as your favorite cartoon or movie character, or even as a fairy princess, for example. Children like to play dress-up, and Halloween is the perfect opportunity to do it. Even if a child is too young to enjoy trick-or-treating, he or she can still get dressed up and have fun at Halloween. There are many choices available for baby Halloween costumes. Parents can find these adorable baby Halloween costumes online.

The only problem you may encounter when baby Halloween costume shopping is choosing just one! There is a plethora of styles available. Classic, cute infant Halloween costumes include pumpkins, carrots and spiders. More daring styles are that of little devils, witches or monster infant costumes.

You should note that if your baby is very young, you should not use a mask. For young babies this can be dangerous and impede breathing. For older babies, well, they simply won't stay on! We all know little ones are great at grabbing things and taking them off, like eyeglasses, and yes, Halloween masks. However, your little one may like to wear a hat instead.

Kids who are a little bit older than infants have much more of a selection when it comes to Halloween costumes, since they can dress up as almost anything they can dream up. Most stores fill their racks with costumes relating to new movies that have been released that year, along with the classics such as witches and other Halloween related characters.

Some great ideas for girl's costumes include witches, fairies, and even angels. Dora the Explorer, Bratz, and even Shrek are great movies and TV shows that many costumes are created after, along with the many Disney movies that are both new and classic. Girls can even dress up as pirates, goblins, and other scary characters if they like.

Boys, too, have a lot to choose from for Halloween. Whatever their ages, they can be their favorite superhero, a zombie back from the dead, or Harry Potter, for example. They should have no problem finding something to fulfill whatever fantasy they have. Little boys old enough to wear a mask also love wearing these, since for this fun filled day, they can look like this like their favorite character.

You can find baby Halloween costumes for your children online. If you do your shopping online, take care to make sure that the costumes you buy will fit; many places have size measurement charts directly on their site so that you can choose the right fit for your child's measurements. Whether your child wants to impersonate a favorite superhero, a fairy princess, or the most recent popular movie character, you should have no trouble finding what you need. Halloween is meant to be fun for parents as well as children, so celebrate on this most special day. Perhaps you'd even like to dress up, too. Edited by Glinda Zuladra

Facts About Safe Toddler Toys

By Matt Safe

Knowing about safe toddler toys is an important part of keeping your child from being injured. This is a serious concern for all loving parents. How can we be sure that a toy is safe for our toddler to play with?

Age recommendations are included on most toddler toys. This will give you an idea of where to begin when choosing a toy. You certainly would not want to purchase a toy which contains many small parts, and is intended for a much older child, for a toddler. These age recommendations remove the guess work for many grandparents, and others who are purchasing a gift for someone else's child.

Choking is a major concern with toddlers. This can be avoided by keeping toys with small parts away from young children. Small children notoriously put everything in their mouths. This is a natural and expected part of an infant or toddler's growth. Even if the child is being closely watched, accidents do happen. It is much safer to wait until children are older to allow toys and games with small removable parts.

Unfortunately, many toys these days have been found to contain lead paint. Lead paint is a serious danger to children's growing brains. It can also cause a negative physical reaction. Do your best to insure that a toy is one hundred percent lead free. If you can not be one hundred percent sure, choose a different toy. Do not feel disappointed, as this is in the best interest of your child.

It is important that your toddler's toys are washable. Again, small children tend to put everything into their mouths. Germs can be very quickly spread, through a contaminated toy which has not been properly cleaned. Toys which are made out of fabric, must be both washable, and flame resistant.

Always be sure to check out the length of any strings or pull cords on all toys. If they are long enough to be wrapped around a child's neck, then you will want to avoid this toy. Balloons and small balls should never be given to children who are under three years old. When they are given to four and five year olds, they should still be closely supervised. A child of any age who puts balloons in or near the mouth should not be allowed to have them, as this may present a serious choking hazard.

If you want to know about safe toddler toys, it is important that you watch your toddler's behavior and habits.

Best Babysitter Agency Tips

By Rashel Dan

A babysitter agency is not always the answer to all your prayers. If you aren't careful, an agency can also be the cause of terrible headaches for you. Finding a good agency is as important as finding the right nanny or sitter. Here are some important tips to consider when looking for an agency.

Check References - Always check the references of the agency itself. Find out through online message boards if it is a company that many people would recommend. Check too the track record of the company. Find out if it has been in the business of providing sitters to families for a long time and if there are instance of major client complaints.

Comparisons - Compare as many agencies as you can. You can easily do this through the internet. Many agencies have online sites that you can access. This will give you an idea which agency has the most convenient system and the most complete service.

List of Services - Go through an agency's list of services one by one. Find out if they have everything you need or if they are missing some crucial service. Important services to consider are thorough background investigation and reference checks.

The Price - Never fail to ask a babysitter agency about the total cost. Be careful. Some agencies have lists of fees that do not include other possible costs. There may be some hidden fees that you may not know about. Always ask an agency for the complete breakdown and total of costs, including possible sitter replacement fees.

Sitter Service - Ask too about arrangements for the sitter. Once you pick a sitter, find out if you would have to spend on transportation fees. Consider in advance if you would want a stay in sitter or one that would stay out. Not every agency provides both types of sitters.

Client Participation - Find out how much you will be involved. Some agencies will let you participate actively in the screening process. They could provide you with an opportunity to interview possible sitters. There are also some agencies that can do the screening for you so all you have to do is to wait for the sitter chosen by the agency. The agency type that you choose will depend on your own personal preferences.

Agency Guarantees - Ask about guarantees. How far will an agency be willing to accommodate your preferences with the least degree of inconvenience on your part? Will they replace sitters you are not happy with at no extra charge? What will happen if a sitter has to go home for personal reasons?

Disadvantages - One disadvantage of a lot of agencies is the steep cost. Always be prepared to spend a lot on an agency is you want good service and a good sitter.

There are numerous agencies out there but you have to be careful. You don't want to end up with the wrong babysitter agency. The wrong agency will not just be a waste of your money. It can also endanger your kids and your home by giving you a sitter who is either incapable or dangerous.

Do You Want To Conceive A Girl?

By Kathy Forcey

We know that you love the baby boy you conceived, but you've had no luck with girls and you are still wanting to have a little princess in your life. If this is your case, then you're probably looking into the ways on how to conceive a girl. Is it even possible to increase the chances of having a female? The short answer is that yes, many couples are using certain techniques to successfully conceive baby girls.

Did you know that men are the ones who determine the sex of the baby? If you remember from your high school biology classes, it's the X or Y chromosomes in the sperm that ultimately dictate whether a male or female will develop from the fertilized egg. Remember also, that eggs contain only the X chromosome, so if it's a X sperm that fertilizes the egg, you'll have a baby girl.

Millions of sperm are deposited, but they start dying off almost immediately. Sperm that can swim up the vagina and make it past the cervix and into the uterus can last up to seven days if the right cervical mucus is present. Once that happens, fertilization of the egg can occur if the conditions are right.

While there is a fifty percent chance of having a boy or girl, did you know that the female sperm has a longer lifespan than that of the male sperm and thus may be the key to how to conceive a girl? X sperm not only live longer but swim more slowly than the weaker and faster Y sperm.

How to conceive a girl using natural methods is not as difficult as you may imagine. However, a guarantee is simply not possible since there are so many factors that can influence whether you'll even become pregnant, but you can certainly boost the odds in your favor.

Backpack Baby Carriers - 3 Ways To Know You Are Buying The Right One

By Miranda Xavier

Just because you have a child does not mean that you have to sacrifice your life. A backpack baby carrier is a good way to stay active once you are a parent.

The wrong baby carrier can soon put you off going out and there is nothing more soul destroying that being excluded because you have a baby. Check out the tips below to ensure that both you and your baby are active and happy.

1. Your Babies Comfort - A crying baby will make for a miserable trip, so you need to be sure that your baby is comfortable and stays comfortable if they fall asleep. You do not want the baby to sleep awkwardly or to have straps poking into them.

Tip - There should be good padding all around the baby with plenty of cushioning around the head, so if the baby falls asleep they will still be comfortable.

If you child/ toddler is a little older or longer it is worth looking into foot straps. These straps stop the child's legs from swinging and they offer support for the child's lower back and pelvis.

2. Adult Comfort - A backpack baby carrier should be comfortable for the adult as well as the baby. If you do not have the correct carrier you will find that you soon suffer with neck, shoulder or back pain.

Tip - The shoulder straps should be wide and well padded, as should the hip support. All straps should be adjustable while the carrier is on. Finally the length of the carrier should be adjustable. If the length of the carrier is incorrect the weight of the carrier will not be correctly distributed between the hips and shoulders.

3. Essential accessories - Some things are definitely a luxury, but others are essential. You do want you child getting weather beaten.

Tip - Make sure that your backpack baby carrier has good covers for wind, sun and rain. As conditions change these should be easy to fit and they should be secure so that the person carrying the child will have confidence in the safety and comfort of the child. The storage space on a baby carrier is important as you will almost definitely have to take spare clothes, snacks and nappy change equipment with you (as well as anything you may want).

The BushBaby even comes with a little mirror in the pocket of the waist support so you can hold it up and check on your baby! Sound unnecessary but I was amazed how much I used it - it saved asking others if my son looked comfortable.

Finally, you will be amazed how much you can share with your child from an early age. Parenting is not just about sacrifices.

Should Your Buy A Wooden High Chair For Your Baby?

By Ned Dagostino

Style conscious parents prefer wooden high chairs to plastic or metal ones for their babies. The wooden high chairs go well with the rest of the stylish wooden furniture in the house. As wooden furniture is moving into more and more households, so also is the wooden high chair.

We all know that stylish furniture is mostly of the wooden kind. Metal chairs appear incongruous with the stylish wooden furniture that you have selected so carefully. Metal high chairs do have the advantage of being foldable, yet you never seem to be able to fit them into the usual storage places.

If you are of artistic temperament then aesthetics is a very high priority with you. If this is the case then it is almost a sure thing that you have furnished your house with wooden furniture of the best styling. A wooden high chair will match the furniture of the dining room or the kitchen. The styling and the finish of the high chair should be chosen to match that of the furniture. Whereas plastic and metal chairs lose their charm after a few years, wooden high chairs age gracefully and will serve the family for generations.

Now that the aesthetic appeal is taken care of, check the functional aspect of the wooden high chair. It is advisable to get a high chair with a front tray that can be manipulated with a single hand. Though a plastic food tray is convenient to keep clean, a wooden tray is just as easy to clean with a damp cloth after every meal.

Make sure of the workmanship. The durability of the wooden high chair depends not only on the wood, but also on the workmanship. High quality high chairs will be held together by natural joints, such as tongue-and-groove and dovetail joints. These are better than joints held together with screws. Safety straps are necessary to hold the baby in the seat. A five strap harness is better than just the waist and crotch combination. The wooden high chair should be stable and well balanced.

You might miss the roller castors that are common on plastic and metal high chairs. This will make shifting the wooden high chair a bit difficult over carpeted areas. You won't be able to turn the chair into a recliner either, a feature that is available only in plastic and metal chairs. The same goes for the height adjustment feature, and the toys on the dining tray, both of which are absent in a wooden chair.

Before buying a wooden high chair for your baby, make a simple comparison check on the features and price of the different models that you are interested in. Categorize the features according to safety, function and beauty, and prioritize them according to how necessary they are in your case. Keep this comparison chart with you when you go shopping for a wooden high chair so you get everything that you decided you required.

If you don't require a wooden high chair right away, take this opportunity to prepare yourself for that event, because sooner or later you will get a wooden high chair for your baby. You can now afford to take your time over the pros and cons of a wooden high chair. If you postpone the analysis to the last minute you won't have much time to recast your decisions and may make a number of rash choices. So make the best use of the tips given above and buy a beautiful, functional, and durable high chair for your loved one!

The Benefits Of Using Cloth Baby Diapers

By Adam Webster

Nobody wants our landfills to be polluted with unhealthy disposable diapers, but are cloth baby diapers the right choice for your baby? There are several reasons showing that they are.

Cloth diapers have always had a bad reputation and it was well earned. They were messy and inefficient for any busy mother. The leaks were uncontrollable and they tended to cause diaper rash in many babies. The development of disposable diapers was a relief to our early mothers.

There has been a revolution of change in the cloth diaper industry. With change has come new developments that have made the bad stigma associated with cloth diapers a thing of the past.

Benefits of changing to cloth diapers

The new cloth diapers that are now on the market have come a long way from those of the past. You will be amazed when you realize that they are just as cute, easy, and convenient as the disposable ones are. Many people are using them and with good reason.

Saving money: You will save a lot of money with the change to cloth. Disposable diapers will cost you thousands of dollars each year and you will end up throwing them in the trash once used. It seems like such a waste when you are able to use cloth over and over again.

Easy: You can't get a disposable diaper that is any easier to use than a cloth one. With the advances in design these amazing diapers offer everything that the other diapers do, and they offer it at less than half the cost.

Health: Your baby could get severely sick from the toxins that are used to keep the disposable diapers absorbent. Cloth diapers rely on design, not chemicals, to keep the baby dry. They also keep the baby's in better condition.

Comfortable: Cloth diapers are ultra soft and provide a great deal of comfort for any baby. They allow full and free movement as well as enabling the child's skin to breathe through the material. This will cut way down on the amount of diaper rashes that your baby experiences.

They have changed: You will be amazed at how much the cloth diapers have changed. You can pick out diapers in a variety of designs and colors so that your baby is not only comfortable, but they are stylish as well. They offer easy to close tabs and a very awesome amount of absorbency.

They help the environment: We always need to be conscious of the world around us. It may be our world now, but one day our children will have to live in it.

Easier potty training: It is shown that a baby who wears cloth will potty train much quicker than one who wears disposable diapers. The disposable ones tend to give a toddler the false feeling of being dry, and that delays their awareness of when they need to go to the toilet. Cloth diapers keep the baby dry, but they still allow the child to know that they have gone in their diaper.

The main reason that you should make the switch to cloth diapers is your baby. Cloth diapers are better for them, and that is really the only reason that you should need.

Clinical procedures will certainly carry a higher success rate for conceiving a girl, but it is still not a 100% guarantee. The human reproduction process is something we learned back in college or high school biology. You probably already know that sperm contains both X and Y chromosomes and depending on which one fertilizes the egg which only has the X chromosome, you'll have a boy or girl. So contrary to what some people believe, dads are the ones who are actually the variable in the equation.

Millions of sperm are deposited, but they start dying off almost immediately. The timing of intercourse is extremely important. You will need to keep track of your ovulation cycle. Most techniques for how to conceive a girl rely on the fact that because of the slower movement of the longer lasting X sperm through the female reproductive tract, it is better to have intercourse a few days before ovulation and then abstaining for the rest of the time. This boosts the chances that X sperm will fertilize the egg when it is released into the fallopian tube.

How to conceive a girl using natural methods is not as difficult as you may imagine. However, a guarantee is simply not possible since there are so many factors that can influence whether you'll even become pregnant, but you can certainly boost the odds in your favor.

Bipolar Symptoms In Children And Learning Not To Use Bipolar Medication

By Ken P Doyle

It is a known fact that symptoms of bipolar disorder in children can be very different than those that are experienced by adults. It can also be confused with other mental disorders in children, like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or depression. When children are diagnosed with the disorder it significantly interferes with their ability to function at home, in school and their relationship with friends.

Some Early Signs

If you find your children wont do as they are told, not listening, public behaviors embarrassing and their behaviors outrageous well, you are not alone with your problems. Getting your children to behave is much easier than you think, but, there is a wrong way and a right way.

Doing it the Wrong Way

Because we have been brought up by shouting and punishment we believe that it will work for bipolar in children. The fact is, it wont work. It is important to remember you are dealing with a brain problem, not your unusual ordinary child. Even when we yell, shout, and hand out different types of punishments, three out of four bipolar kids get up to behaviors they already KNOW are wrong and yet, continue to do them. It is surprising, that the key to ending these problem behaviors is actually to STOP threatening punishments and instead offer rewards.

Addicted to their Behaviors

If you have any idea of being addicted to something, you can at least have some idea on children who are like gamblers and addicted. These children are addicted to their very behaviors - such as temper tantrums and fighting with other children. We as parents must first understand and know why the child is doing what they are doing. Once we know these facts, you can now begin to give positive encouragements to your children, which will eventually change them into good and tolerable children.

Knowing What Works

As we have seen before, arguing and shouting doesn't work and may have a negative result rather than a positive one. When we try and get children to tidy up, help in the yard outside, and take responsibility for their play things it doesn't have to be a task! After every task try to make a big show of appreciation and thank them for what they have done. Always look for any opportunity to offer them, a congratulatory hug or word. Positive remarks and words works wonders. When you do this you in fact are training their mind to react to positive favors. The formula Negative action = Negative reaction and Positive action from parents = Positive reaction from kids may be good to remember.

The Problems with Diagnosing Children

Because of other symptoms not related to bipolar, bipolar in children can be very difficult to diagnose.

All bipolar drugs are powerful " which can result in overdose.

Some psychiatrists are quite heavy-handed with prescribed medications.

Resulting in hair loss, weight gain, and acne (small swelling on the skin), this can become a big problem for children with very sensitive skin, the side effects can be telling with children.

Proven

It has been proven by lots of parents that the body can recover itself without the use of bipolar medication. There are two words that are required here, one is PATIENCE and the other one is to stay POSITIVE.

Baby Sitter Wanted: Reasons Why You Shouldn't Look On Your Own

By Rashel Dan

Perhaps you may think that posting a baby sitter wanted on your window is the best way to get the help you need. But is it? You should think twice though. There are difficulties and disadvantages to looking for a sitter on your own.

Looking for Your Own Sitter

You may prefer to look for your own sitter yourself. This may make you feel like you are in better control of your options. You will also be cutting the cost of fees that sitter agencies and services charge. The advantages of performing your own search may be tempting. There are however, some disadvantages that you should be aware of.

- Time Element - It can take a lot of time for you to find an ideal sitter. This may be well and good if you want to be extra sure that you have the right person. Then again, this may not work out well for you if you want a sitter at the soonest possible time. Waiting for the right one to come along may mean that you would have to postpone whatever you need to do to take care of the kids.

- Ad Results - Good prospects for your baby sitter wanted ad do not come all the time. This is especially true if your ad is only restricted to one area. You may only be advertising in your neighborhood or immediate locality. This may therefore significantly restrict your options.

- Doing Everything - Looking for a sitter on your own means doing everything on your own. This includes checking references and performing background checks. This may be a tedious task on your part. It is especially so if you are not very familiar with the certifications and documents that you would need a sitter to get to prove her clean background. Even if you do manage to perform a good background check, there is still the task of carefully assessing sitter skills and capabilities.

- Limited Option - Looking on your own will limit you to just one hired sitter. This may be to your disadvantage. You may need only one sitter but there is no guarantee that your sitter will always be around. Even the best sitters may have to take some time off for important personal and family matters. That would leave you with no replacement sitter.

Sitter Services

An online service can help take the burden of looming for a sitter off your shoulders. Now you don't need to manually look for a good sitter. Online services can do that for you. Sitter services list potential sitters in your area. You get to have your pick on ideal candidates. If you pay a higher membership fee, you will also be given access to important sitter information such as character background.

In most cases, sitter services has more benefits than if you look for a sitter yourself. They do not however, take away your right to choose and decide. After picking a few prospects from the list in your area, you are given the opportunity to interview your prospects.

If you have a good online service, chances are, you wouldn't need a baby sitter wanted ad. Everything you need to find a good sitter is at your finger tips.

Babysitter Search Options: What You Can Do

By Rashel Dan

Babysitter search can be a time-consuming and frustrating task. Do you even know where to begin your search? There are a couple of good places where you could start looking for a sitter. Here are some of them:

Neighborhood

Your community is a good place to start. Some of your teen neighbors may be willing to baby sit for you. You could also put up an ad on your front lawn and wait for community members to apply. Another way would be to personally ask your neighbors if they know of any good sitters. Many parents swear that this is by far still the best way to get a good sitter. Your neighbor can vouch for the ability and character of your sitter. Then again, even neighbors can make mistakes. They may not be fully aware of a sitter's entire background or history.

By Jaimie Leaven

Often the only means to calm a fussy baby is through rocking him. However it can be difficult to carry your baby in your arms for hours in a row to give him what he needs. Moreover nearly all of the baby products that create an automated rocking movement do not do so in the usual way that your infant prefers. A baby hammock is a completely natural technique to help a fussy infant quiet down and go to sleep. It has been utilized in many Asian countries for a long time as the best means to help a baby quiet down and get sleepy. In recent years, western culture has also embraced this natural manner of calming a baby.

When you give it some thought, the notion of a baby hammock is completely rational. It imitates the manner in which a parent rocks a child to sleep. It furthermore completely captures the way a child feels when you sit with him in your arms in a rocking chair. The rocking motion helps to calm a baby who has problems falling into a peaceful sleep.

It's a completely secure cradle for a baby because it has been made so that there is no way for it to topple. There are no open sides so your infant cannot roll off, and it perfectly mimics an embrace. Your infant will feel like he is being held in your arms and is therefore perfectly happy. It's the perfect snug little nest for your little one in this enormous world.

There could not be a more cozy bed for your infant than a hammock. The reason for why it's so comfortable for your baby is that it is exactly the same arrangement he was in during the final stages of your pregnancy. Reconstructing the warmth and security of the womb will go a long way towards relaxing your newborn.

While your baby lies in the hammock it is difficult for him to turn over onto his stomach. This means your little one will not be exposed to the threat of sudden infant death that can happen in a traditional bed or cradle.

How old your baby is doesn't matter. A baby hammock can be used from the beginning until your little one is one year old. So why not try it, and help yourself and your infant get a good night's sleep.
