Plan Ahead If You Want To Select The Gender Of Your Baby

By Kathy Forcey

From conception to birth a couple's life will never be the same. Pregnancy is probably the most incredible and exciting time shared by two people, changing your whole point of view not just for nine months but forever. Some couples choose to wait until the day of the baby's birth to find what the baby's sex is while on the other hand some choose preconception gender selection. Whatever your decision, make sure it's a memorable one.

As with all life on earth, science and genetics play a vital role and it's not different with the determination of your child's gender. First things first- the man determines the gender of the child due to the fact that the sperm either has a Y or X chromosome which combine with the female's X chromosome egg. Females only have X chromosomes so there is no other option for the female while the man has the natural roulette option of either a Y or X chromosome.

Old wives tales on gender selection have been around since the beginning of time, making the myths as old as the pregnancy event itself. The myths vary from making love in doggy style or standing position to having the female reach climax before male should you have a little boy in mind or having sex in missionary style during late afternoons to having the male reach climax before the female should you have a little girl in mind.

The pH level in your vagina and preconception gender selection are direct linked. The higher the acidity in your vagina the greater the chance of having a girl, the more alkaline or even neutral your vaginal pH the better the chances of conceiving a boy.

Conventional, also known as natural, treatments or methods should be a couple's first choice for conception. Charting as well as exact calculation of ovulation and position changes during sex are all considered conventional treatments or methods. Changes to your diet can possibly play a role in altering alkalinity levels in the vagina.

The Ericsson method is classified as an unconventional preconception gender selection method, consisting of X and Y chromosome sperm separation in a control laboratory environment. Although quite costly to undertake, this method has a higher success rate than other conventional methods.

It is extremely important to consult with your doctor before deciding on or initiating any preconception gender selection treatment as some of the treatments or methods available have potential dangerous side effects. A doctor will also recommend the best method or treatment to suit your lifestyle.
