You can easily design your whole nursery around your baby crib bedding. The nursery is all planned out. You've chosen the crib, the rug, the stuffed animals, even the light-switch covers... but have you forgotten something? When choosing baby bedding there are a lot of things to consider, so make your choice carefully, and keep these things in mind:
- Choose natural, soft fibers like 100% cotton.
- Babies have a lot of "accidents", so buy bedding that is machine washable (another great reason to choose cotton).
- Suffocation is a serious concern for young babies, so the first thing to do is make sure the crib sheet fits properly. If you are worried about the fit of your sheets, you can buy elastic straps that clip onto the crib sheet (under the mattress) and hold it in place.
- Crib bedding sets are cute and very convenient, but they may be unnecessary. You should realize that items commonly included in a bedding set (like bumper pads and comforters) are not recommended for very young babies. Purchasing separates and leaving out the useless pieces can be significantly cheaper than buying a crib set. If you're worried about coordinating, don't be. By purchasing separates, you actually give yourself more freedom to be creative with the nursery.
- When everything else has been taken care of, then you should consider the decor of the nursery.
Consider how long you will need to use the bedding when planning your budget. Since toddler beds usually use standard-sized crib sheets, you could be using the same bedding until your little one is about 4 or 5 years old. If you're just starting your family and think you might have more children, try a gender neutral crib set like the Vintage bedding set, because you can reuse it (and the whole nursery decor) no matter what the gender of your next child. But if you love to redecorate, then you might want to buy something lower-quality and less expensive. In any case, keep extra sets of sheets on hand, in case of emergency!
