Like most other manufacturers Bassett now makes convertible cribs. The company's latest collection owes much of its design inspiration from older American country styles. For, those who love simple, Cottage, New England or Shaker styles, Bassett Convertible cribs will pull at the heart strings.
The following manufacturers all make good quality products from sold woods - usually pine, beech and birch - as well as beautiful veneers to create exquisite finishes like 'antiqued' and 'distressed'. They all offer more or less the same features with some minor differences. The reviews are on their convertible lifetime crib collections. This type converts all the way from crib to full size bed. This type, whilst being more expensive than a traditional crib, can save you the cost of buying your child a bed until they reach adulthood. Not only do they save parents money, buy many parents prefer the style of convertible cribs and they are becoming increasingly popular.
This company has a fine pedigree in the manufacture of nursery furniture. Pali is an Italian company with a wide distribution network in the US. It was the first company to produce the "one-hand" drop side feature with no exposed hardware. Pali calls its collections of convertible cribs, 'Forever cribs'.
A personal favourite of mine is the Sorelle Cottage 4-in-1. Its overall look and restrained styling means that it could fit just as equally well in a modern nursery or one that harks back to previous times. The spindles are plain and square-edged. Likewise, the foot rail is straight and the headboard is crafted of simple wainscoting. The rail on the headboard is curved which softens its overall appearance. The finish is either in white or French white.
The Hamptons is another restrained and elegant convertible crib by Sorelle. It is reminiscent of American colonial styling - straight, simple spindles, with straight foot and head rails. Although available in Autumn and Candle Light finishes, to my mind, this crib looks its best in a Cherry finish. The Mara 3-in-1 is a very beautiful sleigh crib and it comes with an underneath storage drawer though perhaps its most distinct feature is that it is on castors, which makes moving it about easy - I often wonder why most convertible cribs don't come with castors; these are heavy pieces of furniture and moving them about isn't always easy.
