How To Pick The Ideal Baby Cribs For Your Child

By Bianca C Cunningham

Whenever you are buying baby cribs for your child, there truly are a ton of different things that you need to think about. After all, you want to make sure that your child is going to be safe and very comfortable as well as happy in their crib. In this article, we are going to explain some of the best practices to picking out the perfect baby crib for your child!

Needless to say, there are all kinds of different cribs that you can buy. The one thing to remember is that, more often than not, your child will sleep in his or her crib until reaching the age of two or three. Once a child reaches those ages, then a full sized big kid bed becomes possible. The most important thing to consider when purchasing a crib is how safe it is.

So, keeping that in mind, let's look at the different kinds of cribs you can buy. We are going to start with standard cribs, of which there are two kinds. The first kind has a single side which you can drop down. The second kind has double drop sides.

There are pros and cons associated with each one. For instance, you may not be able to get the baby out of the crib quickly enough with a single drop. However, there is less of a chance that he or she will knock down the side and fall out of the bed. The chances of that are riskier with a double drop crib. However, you can get to the baby quite easily.

Convertible cribs are popular as well. In the long run, they can save you money, although when you first buy them they can be somewhat expensive. They save money because they convert. You can turn it from a crib into a toddler sized bed. From there, it can later be converted into a daybed or an actual full sized bed.

Canopy cribs are ideal if you want something classy and elegant. Like adult canopies, there are four posts on the corners, onto which is attached a metal frame. The canopy goes on the crib. There are also round cribs. They tend to be single drop cribs.

No matter what kind of crib you want to buy, make sure you consider how safe it is first. Any crib you choose should have the following features. For drop sides, it should be nine inches over the mattress, at least. There should be no more than 2 3/8 inches between the crib's slats. There should not be room for greater than two fingers in between the mattress and the side of the crib.
