Easy To Make Baby Blankets - Sure To Be A Big Hit At The Baby Shower!

By Tracey Dornelles

Baby Showers are such a joyous occasion not just for the "Mum To Be" but for all the friends and family who get to spoil her and "Oooh and Aaahh" over all the gorgeous miniature presents.

So what do you get for a baby shower present? Well, I have noticed that when the mum-to-be opens up something hand made, it almost always gets the biggest reaction! You see all baby presents are welcomed and appreciated, but when something unique is made just for your baby " it makes you feel REALLY special.

The best part is when you see that baby again at the next party or function actually wearing what you made. A big fuss will be made and you'll be credited with making the gift the little bubba has on.

So, heres a REALLY BASIC guide to making a unique blanket! Trust me its SSSSOOOO easy. If you can sew (almost) straight lines then YOU CAN DO THIS!

UNIQUE BLANKIES!

STep 1: Go to a fabric shop and look for some flannelet material you like.

STEP 2: Choose 2 fabrics one for either side. They dont have to match " experiment! Maybe do one side patterned and the other plain or one side blue pattern and the other side pink pattern if you dont know the sex of the baby.

STEP 3: Purchase 1.2 metres of each fabric.

STEP 4: Go home and get set up at a flat table. Pin the fabric together on all sides with the patterns facing each other.

STEP 5: Try and sew a STRAIGHT lines on each side, but remember to leave a gap of about 10 cm on one side.

STEP 6: Turn the fabric out the right way so the pattern is on the outside.

STEP 7: Now arrange the hole neatly so the edges are tucked in and iron it to stay flat.

STEP 8: Here's where we sew all around the edge of the blanket. The easiest way is just to sew 2 straight lines. One of the lines is to sew the gap up and the other is placed just next to it, so it looks pretty along the border.

You can also do one fancy stitch instead of two straight ones. But make sure you have a bit of a practice on some scrap fabric first.

STEP 9: You're done with the sewing! YAY! Now fold the blanket nicely and add a pretty bow.

STEP 10: Hand over the present and be proud of your gorgeous hand made gift I know your "Mum To Be" will absolutely love.
