How Do Pocket Diapers Compare To Disposables?

By Adam Webster

More and more parents are starting to go for pocket diapers over the typical disposables that have been popular for many years. Cloth diapers may have been what your grandmother used on your mother, but they do not look or act the same as they did back then. The pocket style is new, unique, and quite attractive for baby as well as parents.

When you hear about a diaper made with a pocket style you are talking about a cloth diaper that sort of resembles a pair of underwear. They have a slot inside where inserts of absorbent material are placed. The cloth used is extremely comfortable for baby and is intended to wick the moisture away from the skin.

The outer fabric also comes in a wide variety of stylish patterns and colors, making them more fun to shop for and wear as well. There is an added expense to purchasing the diapers and inserts, but since they can be washed and reused you only have to make the investment one time. Over the years of raising children you can actually save a lot of money.

If more parents would go with some sort of cloth diapers the landfills would benefit as well. Imagine never having to run to the store at the last minute because you are almost out of the throwaways. Further, imagine never having to figure out a way to discard the soggy plastic mess that those make when you are away from the home. Cloth diapers can save you time in this manner as well.

The nice thing about the inserts is that they allow you to control the level of absorbency used. This is great news if you have a child who wets heavily. Nighttime disposables are not very efficient, especially for heavy wetters. With this newer design you can sleep more comfortably knowing your child will be more protected from the moisture if they do go.

For night time or a child who wets heavily you can double the inserts to allow it hold in more of the moisture without overflowing onto your child's clothing.

To put this type of diaper on you simply slide it on. Not only is it fast and simple, but many parents find it preferable to using other cloth or plastic diapers.

Of course, you do still have to wash these since they are made from cloth. This is easily accomplished if you have a basket or hamper where they can quickly be tossed right after changing.

If you don't like the added step of sliding in the insert at the time of a change, you can always pre-stuff them so they are prepared when needed. This eliminates the only major downfall that some parents find with cloth products.

These diapers definitely have more benefits than they do flaws. If you are ready to make an impact on everything from your baby's skin to your local landfill, it is time to make a switch that you can feel good about.

In the end, pocket diapers are better than throwaways because they are just as easy to use, have added comfort for your baby, and are more effective for nighttime wetting. They also save you money and time, so what more could you possibly ask for?
