Colic Treatment for Infants

By Lucille

Research indicates that more than 20 percent of babies will develop Colic and while this is not a illness or a disorder, moms and dads will have to deal with the lasting hours of crying until the infant is four months of age. There is no permanent solution for tummy pain for babies. So the measure that are taken by the moms and dads up to the infant gets older.

Due to breastfeeding infants are used to having something in the mouth and since the mother's breasts are not always available, using a comforter can help the baby stay calm thus preventing excessive crying. It does no good to sit and watch a baby crying so moms and dads should remove the child from the cot and rock it gently to relieve the intestinal colic.

Many times the sense of touch can work miracles making a child understand that he or she is well taken care of, also singing a lullaby is a good idea it is said to help the child fall spine to sleep once more. You can also calm a intestinal colic baby with light music, either a CD or a lullaby sung by the mother.

Going for a amble with baby in a pushchair is easier on your spine and arms than holding him everywhere as he gets older and much heavier. Often the motion of a car ride will help soothe a crying baby. Warm baths can be helpful, but when time is short, a warm bag on the abdomen or a massage with warm lotion can help too.

First the mother must consult with an experienced dietician and ask which food is healthier for the mother and also for that child. this method is very helpful to the baby to prevent from colic. If there is no change at all in the situation then the best thing to do is to give Simethicone drops Another cure some have tried is to stop nursing and switch to dairy based recipes, but still some babies are sensitive to these types of formulas as well. One sure way would be to switch to a soya based recipe. Air is the root cause of some children being colic particularly when the infant is drinking from a bottle.

It is very important to routinely check the hole size of the nipple as a large hole would cause the infant to drink a whole lot more than common. If you find a large hole on the teat, then it is time to get a new one. Before one is aware, the excessive crying will not happen anymore as the infant has become focused to the new environment.
