Treatment of Severe Abdominal Colic

By Lucille Green

Intestinal colic is a common phase in the life of an infant during the first few weeks until the third or fourth month. Some pediatricians think the abnormal crying caused by colic helps make parents more aware of the obligation they have to care for their child. Colic babies cannot be treated with any marvel drug as such - employment of natural cure is indicated and moms and dads will have to simply come to terms with it and wait till the baby adapts to the new surroundings.

The easiest method for parents to use is to play music, which is the same rationale behind lullabies, and playing recorded music is just as effective as singing. This should be placed wherever the infant is in the cot, which can help it, rest comfortably. An extra natural remedy can be found in the mother's diet, because gas-producing foods eaten by the mother, can be passed on through breast milk and cause colic in the child. If the mom is no longer relying on powdered milk or milk concentrates, or is no longer breastfeeding, instead of the normal kind perhaps it would help the intestinal colic baby to use soya milk.

The child will need water as well as breast milk in the first few months but some moms and dads don't know this. To ease a crying baby with intestinal colic, parents commonly carry the baby because the motion effectively comforts most babies. when the infant's mother is finding it hard to carry the infant, it wil be a good idea to go outside of the house. The baby can be placed in a stroller or strapped to the car seat by the mom so that the mother and the infant can both enjoy their time in the park or go for a fun ride.

Babies at a tender age also get stressed too so giving the baby a massage, a warm bath or using aromatherapy can help console the infant. The individual can also use a hot bag and put this on the stomach and making sure that the water is not too hot. After 9 months it will be alright.

Infants are colic because of the new environment and no one can blame the baby especially when their house has been the mother's womb for the first nine months. Moms and Dads can try swaddling or holding the baby close to the chest, in order for the infant to be slowly adjust. If, upon exhausting the numerous natural remedies for colic, there is no improvement in the condition, parents should consider utilizing alternative methods.

There are, of course medications available that can treat colic infants and parents should consult with the pediatrician first which one will do the trick before giving it to the baby. Children classified as colic are believed to be common. Colic is a good indication of a child's health. Both the mother and father need to be ready for some challenging days ahead since there will be a great deal of sleepless nights making them feel very washed-out.
